"What?"
My lips parted in a silent scream as Mrs. Doris's claim left me stunned, this new representation of events rocked my body with sheer force of shock. Until now, I only heard that Bright was abducted by bad guys, short-circuiting my brain; however, the surveillance footage begged to differ. An involuntary gasp escaped my mouth to finally watch the actual video of the incident as the head of security staff played it on his laptop,
"Come out, Bright. We know you are hiding in this Villa."
Dressed in black t-shirts and black jeans, a group of muscular men indeed looked like goons. A stern-faced man was their leader, who yelled at the top of his lungs.
"You can't avoid us any longer. Enough is enough."
That leader with a scar on his face appeared dangerous, disrupting the peace. I could see Bright, my loving fiancé, rushing out of the Villa to handle this situation. His forehead was creased with worry as he asked,
"What are you doing here?"
Bright's odd query locked my muscles in a momentary paralysis, widening my eyes with astonishment. He didn't panic or question them about their identity like a normal person would do in such perilous circumstances. Instead, he spoke firmly,
"I am at my girlfriend's Villa. Not hiding from anyone!"
He was busy tackling them when my kids ran out of the Villa, Zoe grabbed Bright's hand and gasped,
"They are bad uncles, daddy."
My security staff responded to this calamity a bit late, but they circled the group of goons, pointing their guns at them. Jane was undaunted due to our efficient security system as she assured Bright,
"Don't worry, daddy. Guard uncle will call the police and they will arrest all the bad uncles. We are safe."
Standing by Bright's side, Jane and Zoe were like brave warriors in a battle, unfazed by ruffians. But that scared man's roar quivered their tiny figures.
"Shut up, you bastards."
Blazing murderously, he grimaced, "Bastard kids, girlfriend, and her Villa. Is that all you got, Mr. Bright?
Pathetic!"
Balling my fingers into a fist, I was screaming inwardly to call the police, but Bright didn't allow it. He raised his brow and spoke resolutely.
"Leave! Don't cause any trouble.
I won't call the police on you!"
His leniency wasn't the only thing that mystified me, but the goon's response was truly perplexing.
Without a single word, I hugged my son, apologizing sincerely.
"Please forgive your mommy, Zoe. I should have checked you thoroughly for any wounds."
It killed me to admit that I had disregarded my own kids only because of Bright, focusing on his sudden disappearance. The harrowing surge of embarrassment stabbed my chest just to realize that I was a failure as a mother too. My eyes burned with tears, clouding my vision, but I blinked rapidly and sat on the bed with Zoe to examine his wound.
"Show me your leg, Zoe. I will apply this medicine."
My little prince put on a valiant face, nodding in response.
"Ok, mommy. But I am not afraid of pain."
As he was just a kid, I tried my best to be gentle and tended to his injury, clearing the lacerations carefully. It took me a long time to comfort my terrified kid. After putting him to bed, I came to my room, the silence of my Villa provided me with the opportunity to ponder over this eventful day.
It was the last night when I felt myself over the moon, being treasured by my love soared my heart high in the sky. My happiness was limitless, filling my heart with a rainbow of love, but a dark shadow erupted chaos in my world. I hadn't imagined losing everything so soon.
As I analyzed with a serene state of mind, Leo's every word seemed to be the truth. Bright was obviously tired of playing with a woman like me now. He didn't even resist or fight against those men, as if they were his saviors, helping him run away from me.
But after contemplating all the options, the question remained the same: Why would Bright break-up with me all of a sudden?
