Even during meetings, I barely managed to stay present-minded, checking my cell phone every minute for updates as Leo’s name flashed on my cell phone’s screen.
I picked his call in a split second, he spoke seriously.
“I have got some news about Jane, Miss Becker!”
Every passing second sliced my heart into pieces as Leo paused for a moment, expecting my response. I gulped a lump in my throat with great difficulty and said,
He spilled the beans, “We have found Jane. Come to my office please.”
Tons of loads lifted off my chest as I sighed in relief, the news of my little girl’s safety relieved my biggest worry.
Leaving a message for Echo, I rushed towards Leo’s company. His card served its purpose as the driver dropped me right at the entrance of his company’s building.
In addition to playing hockey, Leo had completed his business degree and was thriving in his career too. His export business was flourishing day by day.
Without wasting a single second to check the surroundings, I went straight to the reception and introduced myself.
“I am Laura Becker. Mr. Leo is expecting to see me.”
“Just a moment please, ma’am.”
“Welcome to Leo’s cooperation, Miss Becker. My CEO is waiting for you in his office.”
She asked me to go to the third floor, so I thanked her and took an elevator. Two more men also entered it and pressed the third floor’s button.
Like the typical co-workers, they began to chat, but a specific gossip successfully aroused my curiosity. I listened to them intently.
“Isn’t it amazing that our boss is finally willing to settle down with his new partner after all these years?”
The other one commented, “No doubt, she is the luckiest girl in Lakon city.
Wasn’t Leo habitual of changing his girlfriends, spreading his love everywhere? Then what was new? How could he decide to be loyal to only one girl?
They were right, his new girlfriend must be a Goddess to change habits.
Whatever!
It wasn’t my concern!
His offer left me aghast, I placed my hand on his wide palm absent-mindedly. Leo pulled me up with some force, I didn’t pay attention and accidentally bumped into his chin, letting out a small cry.
My reaction suddenly froze him, he stared at me in a catatonic stupor. His intense gaze made me pause for a moment, flashing a distant memory from the past in my mind.
Before we got married, there was a period of peaceful coexistence. I lost weight to look presentable for him and then, we became friends due to our common interests. The memories of that beautiful time were etched on my soul.
At that time, Leo and I often ended our playful moments with this same gesture. I could vividly remember my stupid tricks of hiding his clothes and then returning them to him by searching together, teasing him playfully.
My foolishness of reminiscing about the era was such a stupidity that I laughed at myself. Like, how could he possibly remember something so trivial about Laura Green, he deeply hated?
Apologizing for my carelessness, I stood at an appropriate distance from Leo. Melody looked at him and hurriedly tried to explain.
“Trust me, babes. It was just an accident.”
No matter how much she explained, the disdainful looks of the workers screamed her crime, it wasn’t a secret as everyone witnessed her attack on me.
Leo raised his brow and ordered; his cold tone halted her in her tracks.
“You have injured Miss Becker, Melody. Apologize to her!”
