Chapter 30 marks a crucial moment in Cassila K’s Internet novel, Five Lost Angels: My Husband's Fatal Deception. This chapter blends tension, emotion, and plot progression to deliver a memorable reading experience — one that keeps readers eagerly turning the page.

Then he turned towards me, “Miss Becker, please allow me to take you to the hospital. You need immediate medical attention!”

I thanked for his consideration and spoke politely,

“You are so kind, Mr. Leo. But it’s not a big deal.”

He didn’t accept my excuses and said, “But I insist, Miss Becker.”

This exchange of formal lines exploded a nuclear bomb of jealousy in Melody’s world.

She chimed in, “It’s just a scratch, babes. Don’t waste your time, her foot isn’t even bleeding.”

“Enough!”

“I suggest that you don’t cause unnecessary trouble here, Melody. Or you and your family will end up on the streets.” The air crackled with tension as Leo grave tone slapped Melody hard across her face, she was shushed by Leo’s threat.

Interesting, their relationship had turned so peculiar.

My ex-best friend’s situation in front of this crowd was just an action replay of her own melodramas.

She made me suffer repeatedly by faking injuries in the past. Like today, if Leo had arrived two minutes later, the small cut on my foot would have healed already.

I had paid a heavy price for those moments when Leo came to her rescue and forced me to apologize for nothing.

But seeing Melody, who had basked in his endless affection, experiencing what I had once, left bittersweet feelings in my heart. Although this incident swapped our positions, appeasing my vindictive soul, I couldn’t get rid of feeling emptiness.

“Please take me to find my Jane first, Mr. Leo. I wish to see my daughter.”

He replied to me, “My assistant had already gone to pick Jane and Zoe. They will be here in ten minutes.”

Then he ordered his staff to work and invited me to his office. I noticed the simple yet elegant decor inside as I walked through the glass door Leo opened for me.

He took me to the sofa for guests and helped me sit, “As you have refused to go to the hospital, please let me treat your wound.”

Leo brought a first-aid box from the drawer and sat beside me, tenderly tending to my injury. I removed my shoes for better access to the cut, but his fingers brushing over my exposed skin ached my heart. I was speechless when I saw his serious expressions.

For years, I yearned for a speck of his affection, hoping that he would tend to my needs once. But it never happened, and here he was, putting utmost efforts to treat a stranger’s lacerations.

Looking at him for a length of time, I lost control over myself. An involuntary query escaped my mouth in the flow of emotions.

“Mr. Leo, are you this kind to every partner you had?”

His indifferent gaze met with mine as he stayed silent in response. I swiftly added to my statement, “I am so sorry for asking such a personal question. Please don’t mind me.”

I had to remind myself that Leo was showing interest in me because I was slim and beautiful now. That shallow man wasn’t capable of loving any woman sincerely.

But his solemn tone puzzled me as he straightened up, wiping his hands with tissue.

“No, except..you. I deeply regret it!”

Oh, really?

“Good to know that you are capable of feeling something other than repulsion for your ex-wife!” Rolling my eyes at him, I chucked inwardly, unable to decipher the true meaning of his statement.

What should I? Should I thank him for remembering the fat, ugly girl? Or feel sad about his feelings?

Jane nodded in response and lowered her head as I scolded her.

“Then why didn’t you follow my simple words, Jane? Firstly, you tricked the guards to see Zoe, and now, you turned deaf ears to my instructions. You are behaving like a bad girl, Jane. This is intolerable!”

My anger was touching the roof as this stern tone didn’t feel enough, so I decided to get to the bottom of it.

“Whose idea was this to play hide and seek during a meeting?”

Jane and Zoe looked at each other, not ready to spill the secret. Then my one glare did its trick as Jane started speaking like a talking parrot.

“Zoe asked me to play with him.”

This confession diverted the course of my fury towards Zoe, I reprimanded him as well.

“Sorry, mommy. It will never happen again.”

Jane and Zoe promised me and Leo. That was when my gaze fell at Leo. He was supposed to be furious like me, but that careless man was smiling, as if we were watching a comic movie.

His prolonged wide smile puzzled me as I reigned in my emotional storm and focused my attention on the surroundings, it crossed my mind.

“Leo was standing like a cool dad while I was scolding Jane and Zoe like my own kids.”

Shoot!

A cool dad, an angry mom, beautiful kids. It looked like all four of us were a family. This realization popped up Jane’s biological father’s image in my mind, making me feel guilty.
