Summary of Chapter 38 from Five Lost Angels: My Husband's Fatal Deception
Chapter 38 marks a crucial moment in Cassila K’s Internet novel, Five Lost Angels: My Husband's Fatal Deception. This chapter blends tension, emotion, and plot progression to deliver a memorable reading experience — one that keeps readers eagerly turning the page.
The Lakon ice hockey tournament had begun, and whether I liked it or not, I was about to step into Leo’s world once more. This wasn’t just any match—it was a battlefield where legends were made, and failures were forgotten.
Although I had decided to keep it professional and go with Echo, Jane insisted on watching it live.
“Mommy, please! I want to see the live action.”
After several back-and-forth exchanges, I agreed with her and used a disguise to conceal my identity. Wearing masks and glasses covered our faces successfully.
At sharp eleven in the morning, Jane and I arrived at the stadium; Echo had bought front-row tickets for us. Seeing the spectacle of the rink, I imagined the scene of my Jane playing as a professional player in a few years by herself. I couldn’t wait for that day to turn into a reality soon.
The commentators welcomed the hoMelodyble guests and gave a small speech on the significance of today’s event before the players’ introduction.
Leo came out, dressed in hockey gear, his confidence made him prominent among his team members. He waved in our direction and mouthed, “Watch out!”, making me conscious. I shifted in my seat uncontrollably; someone must have informed him about my arrival today.
But I didn’t respond, ignoring his attempt to gain my attention. Leo didn’t stop at it, he raised his brow and winked as the referee blew the whistle, making the fans behind me scream.
Hah!
What a narcissist!
Well, the match started on a good note as both the teams were of equal caliber, they struggled to dribble the puck into the opponent’s net. Both goaltenders were on high alert.
As a center forward, Leo was attacking with his left and right wing, his grace, and speed left others in awe. They stayed in the lane, forming a common strategy known as triangle.
The right forward abstained from the puck, the left one and Leo passed it between them, making the goalie move from side to side. That strategy opened up the net for scoring opportunities, and that was what Leo looking for.
The puck crossed the line successfully and everyone cheered for him, the commentator announced one point for his team. The game became so intense after that, fixing my attention on every player was impossible for me now.
So, I only focused on Leo like old times, witnessing his mastery on the rink. His effortless moves were like the dance of a butterfly, murderous enough to beat his enemy on a whim.
Chaos erupted in the stadium as a left forward snatched the puck from the corner and Leo held full command of it, scoring a lacrosse-style goal within seconds.
I even jumped in my seat, this style of game always fascinated me. Leo would scoop the puck on the blade of the stick, and then the puck still on his blade, he whipped the stick around the net and tucked the puck in a top corner over the goalie’s shoulder. Simply mind-blowing!
One more point was added to the scoreboard until the first break, foreshadowing the victory of Leo’s team.
The game was resumed after fifteen minutes and by that time, Jane had already become Leo’s anti-fan. When I clapped for him on the fourth goal, she glared at me, calmly pointing out the tactical errors that Leo’s team made.
“If it were me, I would have practiced for a better rhythm of hands and upper body.
Look at their lazy shots, they aren’t accurate and powerful.”
Her criticism of their style even drew the attention of some spectators, who turned to argue with her.
Good one!
I rolled my eyes at her comment, only I knew how this God began his rule on the city in the very first place. Jane also caught a whiff of these snarky remarks and said,
“Mommy, don’t listen to them. Everyone should work hard to attain new opportunities for popularity.”
Some people started eyeing us suspiciously after my Jane’s innocent statement. Luckily, our disguise concealed our identities. Without wasting a single second, I grasped Jane’s arm and snuck out of the crowd to go back.
We sat in our car and took off our masks and glasses to relax. But my mind was still stuck on Leo’s sly smile, I showed him the middle finger in my imagination and sneered.
“Hah!
Trying to provoke me?
Fine!
I called Echo and said, “Find all the doctors who appeared in the old forest of Lakon between July and September five years ago, and bring them to me secretly.”
“And, get in touch with Mr. Leo about the cooperation as soon as possible!”I added.
I will surely play along with your little game, Mr. So-called hockey star!”
