Chapter 161 How Could I Be So Lucky? novel Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean
Allie sat on the ground sobbing. She did not move for a long time, but no one dared to help her up.
Lindsey was still clueless about Allie’s new opinion of her.
The consequence of sleeping too much during the day was insomnia at night. Lindsey laid in bed, tossing and turning many times, but she still had trouble falling asleep. Thus, when there was a knock on the door, Lindsey sat up almost at once.
It was already after midnight.
Zayn stood at Lindsey’s door and did not realize that there was anything inappropriate about banging someone’s door in the middle of the night.
The doorbell was like a decoration to him. Lindsey sighed and pulled the door open.
"Zayn Guggenheim."
The man’s eyes in front of her visibly lit up for a moment. Before she got angry, Zayn lifted the things in his hands and waved them in front of Lindsey's eyes.
"I'm a little hungry. Eat with me." His tone was very matter-of-fact.
Zayn did not wait for Lindsey to answer and added, "I haven't eaten all day and I've been busy since I went to the office until now."
He sat on the floor of the living room and started to eat as Lindsey watched him. She was amazed at the fact that she did not refuse him and even invited him in.
This damned soft heart!
It seemed that Zayn was really hungry, but he was still refined in the way he ate. When he ate the simple mac and cheese, Lindsey thought he was having the best French cuisine.
Lindsey watched him eat and even started to salivate.
"I've been thinking a lot lately about when we were little." Zayn finished the bowl of mac and cheese before he spoke softly.
He did not touch anything else on the table and looked like he was done.
Lindsey looked at him and did not say a word.
"I was wondering how I could be so lucky and so stupid."
Lindsey felt heartbroken for the self-deprecating and anguished smile on his face, but she could not bring herself to say anything.
Zayn had removed his shell of indifference and was like a manchild who regretted and blamed himself for missing his beloved woman.
Lindsey suddenly felt that the current Zayn was becoming more and more irresistible to her.
When the man's face leaned over and was about to kiss her, Lindsey suddenly came back to her senses and shied away. Her eyes were flickering in panic, so she made a random excuse. "I'm hungry."
The agony on Zayn's face instantly turned into a look between sadness and bewilderment. Seeing him like this, Lindsey suddenly laughed out loud and emphasized again, "Zayn, I'm hungry."
Zayn wanted to feed her in a different way, but the current atmosphere was so harmonious that he could not bear to ruin it.
He had not seen Lindsey's heartfelt smile like this in a long time.
Lindsey picked up a fork and brought another bowl from the kitchen, then started eating.
Zayn, who did not have much appetite earlier, was influenced by her and ended up eating everything with Lindsey.
At 2:00 am, the two of them finally filled their stomachs.
Zayn did not say that he wanted to leave and Lindsey did not chase him out either. The table was a mess, but neither of them cleaned up.
"I'm not tired yet. Are you?" Lindsey asked.
Zayn shook his head. He had not rested all day today, but somehow he was energetic.
Lindsey chose a classic movie, “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”. The two of them sat on either side of the sofa and watched the film's main characters meet and fall in love. It was such a quiet and beautiful scene that looked almost picturesque.
After saying that, Mrs. Wendy hung up the phone. Lindsey looked at her phone and pursed her lips.
She did not want Zayn to send her, but when she finished washing up, she saw the man standing at the door, waiting for her in high spirits.
Seeing Lindsey walk out the door, Zayn tossed his car keys up and smiled as he said, "Let's go."
He was wearing a white jacket and dark jeans today. He looked less solemn without his usual suit and looked more refreshing and youthful.
"Let's go. Why are you still standing there?" Zayn's voice was joyful and pulled Lindsey back from her thoughts.
"I'll just go over by myself. You can go to the office."
Zayn raised his eyebrows. "Grandpa specifically instructed me to make sure I bring you there intact."
After he said that, he did not wait for Lindsey’s reply before he walked to the elevator lobby. Lindsey was helpless and followed along. “You don’t have to go into the office today?”
The man in front of her stopped abruptly. "You don’t want me to send you?"
His voice was a bit cold.
Lindsey did not know what to say. Zayn looked at the top of her head and after a moment, he sighed, then reached out to pull her hand. "You just have to bear with it even if you don't want me to send you."
She was pulled by him all the way downstairs and stuffed into the car. Although his action was rough, it did not hurt her at all.
"Are you okay today?" Lindsey asked.
Zayn sneered. "Do you not want me to be okay?"
Lindsey just wanted to say something, but she saw that the man suddenly leaned over. Last night’s memory suddenly flashed in her mind. She still remembered when she dodged Zayn’s kiss.
