Mrs. Wendy waved her hand. She looked reluctant and a little shy. "Amusement parks are for young people like you. I’m too old to go."

Lindsey laughed. "You don’t have to be shy about it!"

Mrs. Wendy refused to go no matter how Lindsey persuaded her, so Lindsey did not force her to go.

Lindsey rarely left the house these days, but today was a good day, so she was in a great mood.

She did not want to drive with Dezi, so she just took a cab to the amusement park that was not far from Jade Garden. It was only about half an hour away.

They left the house early, so when Lindsey arrived at the amusement park with Dezi, there were not too many people around.

After getting the tickets, Lindsey held Dezi’s hand and went on all the children’s rides. She even bought a cartoon headband for herself and Dezi. After putting it on, they looked at each other and laughed.

They played until they were sweaty. Lindsey thought that she did not feel so happy in a long time.

The mother-son pair sat on a bench in the park to rest when Dezi suddenly tugged on Lindsey's sleeve.

"What's wrong?" Lindsey turned around and asked him. He had just been to the bathroom and drank water. Was he feeling uncomfortable?

Dezi held her hand and pointed at Lindsey’s phone that she used to call Mrs. Wendy earlier. He tapped on the screen then looked at Lindsey with quizzical eyes.

The lock screen on Lindsey’s phone was originally a photo of Zayn and Dezi that was taken when they were in Germany. Now, it was replaced with a photo of Dezi alone.

Lindsey did not expect this little boy to be so observant and noticed it so quickly.

The familiar pain surged in her heart and the tip of her nose tingled. Lindsey brushed it off and said, "What's wrong with this one? Is it not nice?"

Dezi shook his head and looked at Lindsey stubbornly.

Lindsey did not know how she should explain this to him, so she thought for a moment before saying, "Mommy likes this photo better, so I changed it. I’ll change it again when I take a new picture of Dezi and Daddy, okay?"

The little person in front of her seemed a little upset. His mouth moved and he slowly lowered his head.

Lindsey suddenly felt heartbroken. She then felt the little hand scratching her palm. Dezi used sign language not very fluently and asked, "When will Daddy come back?"

"Soon." Dezi’s clueless face that carried adoration and disappointment was like a sledgehammer that hit Lindsey on the chest, breaking her heart to pieces while the pain slowly spread throughout her body.

Lindsey turned away and gently wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes. She stroked Dezi's head and said, "Soon. If you want to see Daddy, Mommy can ask him to come back sooner, then you can see each other."

"Do you want to see Daddy?" Lindsey asked softly.

The little person in front of her nodded a few times.

Lindsey closed her eyes and did not want to affect Dezi with her mood, so she smiled and sniffled. "Okay. Mommy will go back tonight and tell Daddy that Dezi wants to see him, so he can come back early."

Her voice cracked with an uncontrollable sob. The little one in front of her was aware of it and suddenly reached out to put his hand on her face.

Dezi's occasional stubbornness was usually about Zayn.

Lindsey had been very good at restraining her emotional ups and downs. Soon, she returned to her invincible facade.

After she hung up, she picked Dezi up and ran to the amusement park entrance to hail a cab.

"Central Hospital, please."

Lindsey did not even notice that her hand that was holding Dezi tightened so much that the child twisted uncomfortably. She then hurriedly let go.

"Sorry, did Mommy hurt you? Are you okay?" Lindsey asked.

Her heartbeat still had not calmed down. Yvette said that Shaun lost a lot of blood and she did not know how serious the injury was, but it definitely was not light. Otherwise, it would not have been necessary to operate.

On the way to the hospital, Lindsey’s mind was in overdrive from all the possible scenarios. She just wanted to get there as soon as possible.

When she arrived at the hospital, Lindsey got out of the car and her legs felt limp. She almost could not stand up. She gritted her teeth and carried Dezi, then ran in as fast as she could.

Yvette was at the door to the operating theater, bawling her eyes out. Callum was on the side with a glum expression, yelling into his phone. Lindsey had never seen Callum looking so fierce before. He seemed to be repeating, “Investigate it now! I don’t care what method you use. Just find out who is behind this and who dares to harm my sister!”

Lindsey felt that if there was an answer to Callum's question at this moment, Callum would have lunged up to that person and cut them to pieces mercilessly.

When Yvette saw Lindsey panting and carrying the child, her eyes suddenly lit up and she stood up at once. Her makeup was a mess because of her tears. "Lindsey..."

"How is it?" Lindsey put Dezi down and held his hand tightly. "Has the surgery started?"

Yvette nodded frantically. She looked like she had been scared silly. Her words also became slurred. "It started. We told them that you’ll come and sign the surgery consent form. Here."
