"Shoo! Shoo! Ms. Lenig, you’re from Denarius and the work I’m doing right now involves Hemera’s trade secrets. If you insist on staying, I have reason to suspect your intentions of coming over." Lindsey said as she waved her hand at Jenny Lenig as if she was swatting a fly. She did not touch Jenny as she was afraid that Jenny would take advantage of this opportunity to frame her again.
Looking at the pair of hands that kept waving in front of her, Jenny could not stand it and finally stood up, taking a few steps back.
"Hmph! It's good that you’re aware this is Denarius. Lindsey Juhl, you better know your place and don't covet things that don't belong to you!"
"Thanks for reminding me. I know my place very well, unlike someone who loves to daydream."
"You..." Jenny wanted to say something else, but she saw that several colleagues were looking over, so she only added, "We'll see about that!"
Zayn saw Lindsey chasing Jenny away with her tricks and looked at that lively person with a newfound interest. A touch of tenderness leaked out of the corners of his mouth unknowingly.
However, when Jenny left, that lively figure laid back in her chair. She was lying on her back and her face was indescribably despondent and cold.
Zayn could see the expression on her small face clearly through the glass and frowned deeply.
"Mr. Guggenheim, this is your long black without sugar and the collated data for you to read through." The secretary put the stuff on his desk and turned to leave.
"Change a cup." Zayn put the coffee he had taken a sip of on the desk without raising his head.
The secretary was stunned and thought, ‘Wasn't this his usual?’
However, the President's order could not be questioned.
The secretary carried the coffee out and made him another cup, then carefully placed it on Zayn's desk.
"Mr. Guggenheim, here’s your coffee."
The secretary was apprehensive seeing Zayn taking a sip of the coffee.
"Change a cup."
This was his final verdict.
"Mr. Guggenheim."
"Change it."
The secretary went back and forth three times to remake the cup of coffee. Usually, this was a simple thing, but she was exhausted doing the same thing over and over today.
Everyone envied her for being able to get close to the President, but only she knew about the hardships this job entailed!
Quentin had just returned to see the secretary’s teary eyes and shaking hands as she carried the cup of coffee.
He sighed and glanced at Lindsey, who was sitting in the corner. Quentin walked up and took over the cup of coffee from the secretary's hand, temporarily relieving her of her duties.
"Ms. Juhl, I suddenly remembered that I still have some urgent business to tend to. Can you please help me send this coffee in for Mr. Guggenheim? Don't worry, I'll be right back!"
Quentin placed the cup of coffee on Lindsey's desk and ran away without stopping.
"Mr. Quentin!" Before Lindsey had time to react, she could only see his departing back. She then looked at the coffee placed on the table with a dumbfounded face.
After struggling for a moment, Lindsey picked up the steaming cup of coffee and walked towards Zayn's office.
She still recalled how Quentin had tried to help her when Jenny was giving her a hard time earlier, so consider this her returning him a favor.
After knocking on the door, Zayn's cold voice sounded, "Come in."
Lindsey walked into Zayn’s office slowly and stopped two steps away from the desk, then reached out to put the cup on the desk.
She then wanted to leave without saying a word.
When she was not paying attention, Zayn pulled down the blinds on that panel of glass.
"Stand right there." Zayn slowly looked up from the documents, then picked up the coffee again and took a sip.
"Is there anything else you need, Mr. Guggenheim?" Lindsey turned to look at the kingly man in front of her.
"Ms. Juhl, this is your first day at Denarius. Is there anything you’re not used to?"
"I'm quite comfortable, Mr. Guggenheim." He addressed her as Ms. Juhl, so she called him Mr. Guggenheim as a courtesy.
"Ms. Juhl, your coffee suits my tastes, so I'll leave this to you while you’re here at Denarius." Zayn took another sip of coffee and narrowed his eyes. The dissatisfaction of having the secretary remake his coffee thrice dissipated at that moment.
"Put it there."
When she turned around to leave, Zayn casually spoke again, "Ms. Juhl, please order a meal for me."
His tone was so d*mn righteous.
It took all she had to stop herself from throwing something at his face. She smiled rigidly and said, “Mr. Guggenheim, what would you like to eat?”
"Ask Quentin."
If that was the case, he might as well just ask Quentin to order for him. Why did he want to make things difficult for her?
Lindsey cursed him in her heart, but in the end, she still asked Quentin about Zayn’s usual eating preferences.
Unexpectedly, the two of them had similar tastes in food.
After ordering a meal for Zayn, Lindsey simply ordered one for herself as well.
Zayn sat on the soft and comfortable sofa in his office, eating while unconsciously looking out the glass panel at Lindsey.
Due to the limited space, Lindsey had to move her laptop aside, barely freeing up a small space. She then started eating at the tiny corner.
From his angle, he could see her slightly puffed-up cheeks, like a small pufferfish.
She did not look gracious at all while eating.
Lindsey stuffed everything on her plate into her mouth one bite after another, unconsciously treating the food as Zayn.
Strangely, Zayn felt that her current look was much better than her dead and dull look. She looked more lively and vibrant, with a light in her eyes that moved him.
After a long day, it was finally time to leave. Lindsey stretched her back and thought that a day at Denarius was much more tiring than a week at Hemera.
"Linds, are you off work yet? I'm waiting for you at the Denarius office lobby." Lindsey received a message on her phone. It was from Shaun.
Lindsey hurried downstairs excitedly, unaware of the darkness in the eyes of the man behind the glass panel when he saw her leave.
