Quentin started the car while looking at Lindsey through the rearview mirror with a worried expression.
She did not seem to be in the right mental state and did not look like she had been mugged. If someone was robbed, they would have been angry and would immediately want to call the police. However, Lindsey did not and only looked exhausted.
When he arrived earlier, Lindsey looked so lost in thought like she had suffered emotional trauma.
"Take me to the hospital." Lindsey could feel that Quentin had driven to the main road with her eyes closed. After a long time, she finally spoke.
Without her reminder, Quentin already knew to take Lindsey to the hospital. Her cheeks were flushed and she looked extremely weak especially with that heavy coat around her.
Quentin would look up at her suspiciously from time to time. Lindsey looked like she was asleep, and for a long time, the car was silent.
“Quentin.” Suddenly, Lindsey spoke again. Her voice was tired with indescribable agony. “Do you think that Zayn might still be alive?”
The car screeched to a stop. Quentin looked up at her through the rearview mirror and saw that Lindsey’s eyes were still closed. Her body swayed with the sudden stop of the car, and her words sounded like crazy talk.
"What do you mean?" His eyes flashed with anticipation and disbelief as he thought of the familiar back he had seen earlier at the reception.
Lindsey then shook her head. "Nevermind...I just miss him. Just drive."
She just missed Zayn.
Quentin glanced at Lindsey dubiously and noticed that she was silent and seemed to be sound asleep. After a few seconds, he stepped on the gas pedal again because he was honked by the car behind them.
When Lindsey woke up again, she was already in the hospital ward. A nurse was helping her dress her wounds.
When the nurse saw Lindsey opening her eyes to look around, the nurse smiled at her and said, “Did I hurt you?”
She was dressing the wound on Lindsey’s bloodied feet. Lindsey shook her head and wanted to smile at her, but the corners of her lips just could not be lifted.
"If it hurts, just say so. I'll try to be gentle." The nurse was gentle and looked a few years older than Lindsey. Her eyes were focused as she lowered her head to work.
Lindsey shook her head again.
It was probably late, and there were not many people in the hospital, so the nurse said while applying disinfectant on Lindsey's foot, "How did you get hurt like this? Although small wounds like this might not leave scars, it’s still quite painful."
"I was careless," Lindsey whispered, only to realize that her voice was a bit hoarse. Even while lying down, she felt very dizzy.
The nurse probably noticed that Lindsey was a bit stunned after hearing her own voice and patiently explained, "You have a fever that's quite serious, so you still have to stay for observation after you’re done with this IV drip."
When the nurse finally finished treating Lindsey's wounds, she carried the tray and was ready to leave. Lindsey remembered Quentin and asked in a soft voice, "Where’s the guy who came with me?"
"Oh, he's outside, I'll go out and call him in."
"Thanks."
Lindsey did not know that her makeup had been removed. At this time, she had a plain face and her lips were pale. The way she was nestled in the pillow made her face look even smaller and made her look so fragile.
The nurse could not help but glance at her a few more times and sighed in her heart before she turned to close the door to the ward. A few seconds later, the door was opened once again. It was Quentin.
"After you left, it took another ten minutes for Ms. Juhl's assistant to look for her after getting a hint from our people. During which, Ms. Juhl just sat motionless on the ground for a long time."
Thinking of the image he saw in the shadows earlier that night, Luke felt somewhat moved and could not help but say, "President, I think that Ms. Juhl wouldn’t care that much..."
Before Luke could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by the man's cold voice, "Leave."
Luke sighed lightly and placed the documents in his hand on the table in front of the man before he turned to leave.
His footsteps did not make a sound on the thick carpet. After a soft "click" of the door closing, the motionless man slowly stretched out his trembling fingers to pick up the document on the table.
The back of his hand and his exposed wrist were all covered in gnarly scars that looked quite gory.
The documents were Lindsey's diagnosis report.
High fever, multiple soft tissue contusions.
His heart clenched so tightly that he felt a throbbing pain. He wanted to stop and turn around to hug her and tell her that her beloved Zayn was back, but he was so ugly!
He looked like a monster now.
Even he felt that he was too hideous!
