Chapter Thirty Seven

"No! Mother, let it be! I thought she would learn her lesson and stop being so greedy! The state my daughter is in is in today is all because of her! God has given us enough and we’re enough for each other. As soon as she wakes up, I’m taking her away from here and we can live on our own," She declares blankly.

Everyone is stunned.

Ahmed bursts in anger by his aunt’s words towards his mother.

"So? Take her away from here! All of this is happening because of her! Since she entered this house, our lives have been hell! She took away all of my mother’s peace. And she went as far as to take my love away from me!” He yells at his aunt.

She looks at him in shock. Tears of humiliation well up in her eyes. For the first time, Ahmed, who was very close to her, spoke like this to her.

Yaqub strides towards his son and slaps him hard, the sound echoing in the empty corridor of the hospital.

"If I had given you this slap a little earlier, then you wouldn’t be talking like this today! You forgot how to respect your elders? Is this what your mother taught you? And how dare you speak ill of my daughter? She was the one who saved you from that cunning woman. She was just after your money and property." His body shakes in fury.

Somewhere deep down, he knew that he would regret it the moment Sahaan told him he would and he actually did regret it. Pain and regret fills up his eyes. He rummages through the words he threw at Sahaan.

But what shocked him more was that Tanzeen's betrayal didn't even hurt him. He realised that what he felt towards her was just a mere thought, not even an attraction or infatuation.

"Do you believe me now? What was my daughter's mistake that you and your mother started punishing her from day one? That idiot girl! How many times did I tell her not to love someone that would end up hurting her, but she never listens." Saira whispers to Ahmed. He’s looking down, head bowed in shame.
