Scott couldn't possibly leave right after checking on Caleb.

Since the latter was fine, Scott made himself comfortable on a couch and settled in to play a game. He would play one more round before heading home; he was indeed the ideal thoughtful little brother.

Caleb watched Scott disappear into his game world. He knew that Scott would most likely play in silence if he didn't say anything.

After hesitating briefly, he spoke up. "Scott, give me your phone."

Scott kept his eyes glued to the screen and asked absentmindedly, "What do you need my phone for? Mom sent you a new phone, didn't she?"

Caleb pursed his lips. Then, he decided to tell the truth. "I need your phone so I can video call Shannon."

At this, Scott immediately paused his game and protectively clutched his phone. He turned to look at Caleb with alarm. "Why do you need my phone for that?"

Caleb irritatedly snapped, "If I had her number, I wouldn't have had to use your phone." There was no way he was tagging her out in the family group chat; that'd be too embarrassing.

"No way!" Scott replied without a moment's hesitation. He remembered when Hank had used his phone to contact Shannon without permission, and he'd ended up getting blocked for a while.

It had taken forever to get unlocked, so there was no way he was going through that again.

Caleb's face fell at this rejection. "Are you giving it to me or not?"

"No!" Scott gripped his phone with all his might. "You don't get along with Shannon, and if you say the wrong thing and get in trouble, I'll be the one suffering."

Caleb took a deep breath and forced the urge to smack Scott. After some internal debate, he finally confessed, "I'm not trying to do anything; I just want to thank her in person."
