“Let’s head down first and talk as we go!” Hazel pulled Lily out. 

Lily shipped off her hand and pressed the button for the first floor. “Let’s talk outside.” 

“Hey! Don’t go!” Hazel grabbed the elevator door and pulled her back. “You’re being unreasonable. I’ve been doing everything I can for you, and you treat me like this? How could I possibly harm you?” 

A nurse pushing a medication cart stopped outside the elevator. “Are you going up or down?” 

Hazel still chung to the door. “We’re going down. Sorry. We’ll be right out.” 

Since Lily didn’t step out, Hazel kept holding the door. Frustrated, Lily had no choice but to leave the elevator. 

“You know,” Hazel continued, dragging her down the hallway toward the gynecology department. “When you were little, we worked so hard to set you up with Xavier–piano lessons, getting into a good university. 

“We invested so much time and energy into you, yet after your marriage, things haven’t gotten any easier for us!”

‘s voice was dripping with self–pity and a twisted version of ‘love‘ as she spoke. 

“Even if you don’t care about Hayden or us, you must hold on to your position as Mrs, Fulton. You’ll live a life of luxury, and even if you don’t share a penny with us, as long as you’re happy, your dad and I will be happy, too.” 

Lily simply let her speak, not taking anything in. 

At the end of the corridor, Hazel pulled out a mask. “Put this on so you don’t run into anyone you 

know.” 

Lily glanced at the nameplate on the door. “Director Margaret Campbell, Gynecology Department, Jadeford Hospital“-specializing in infertility 

treatments. 

“I’m fine,” she said, refusing the mask, clearly resisting. However, Hazel ignored her, opening the mask and trying to put it on her ear. 

“You’ve been trying for two years and still can’t get pregnant?” 

Seeing that Lily was about to leave, Hazel grabbed her hand. “The only connection our family had left was through this hospital. Your dad worked hard to get Dr. Campbell. She’s known as the ‘Goddess of Childbirth! 

“Pregnancy isn’t just my responsibility!” Lily snapped, pushing her hand away and pulling the mask off. 

“The Fulton family gets regular check–ups. How could Xavier have a problem?”
