It was a contraceptive pill. 

Instantly, Lily became more alert, a sharp pang of pain flashing in her chest. Taking a deep breath, she pushed herself up 

She took a pill from the bottle, placed it in her mouth, and drank some water from the nightstand. 

Her eyes never left. Xavier, whose indifferent gaze was also fixed on her. Neither of them acknowledged the pill. She was just following his lead 

Xavier returned the bottle to its place and turned to leave for the study. 

Lately, Xavier had been busier with work, and Lily had noticed. Every time Tamara went on a business trip, Xavier seemed to have more late–night video calls than usual, likely due to the time difference 

The disturbance caused by the contraceptive pill left her wide awake. She got up to take a shower and then returned to bed, but it took a while for sleepiness to finally settle in. 

Just as she was beginning to drift off, her phone rang. Instinctively, she reached for it, pulling it from beneath her pillow and swiping to answer. 

“Xavier…” 

“Hello. 

They spoke at the same time, 

On the other end, Sarah’s voice was soft and weak, carrying a seductive undertone in the stillness of the night. 

Lily’s voice, hoarse and raw, clearly resulted from what had just transpired. 

An intense silence hung in the air. Lily opened her eyes, realizing she had answered Xavier’s call 

“Click” 

The door opened, and Xavier stepped in. Upon seeing Lily holding his phone, his expression changed immediately. 

He snatched the phone from her hand. “Who gave you permission to answer my call? 

His grip was strong, pulling her by the arm and causing her to fall back onto the bed. 

Her long hair was messy as she stared at him, confused. Why was he so upset? It wasn’t as if answering the phone would separate him from Sarah. Perhaps he was worried Sarah might be upset. 

A mocking smile tugged at the corner of her lips, but she said nothing. 

The fury in Xavier’s eyes was palpable. He shot her a warning glance before storming out of the room with his phone. 

“Listen, I can explain…” 

Explain what? He had slept with Lily, 

y, his wife did he really need to explain himself to Sarah? 

Lily closed her eyes, the words she wanted to say lodged in her throat. In the end, she just turned over and fell asleep. 

As Xavier stepped out of the bedroom, his words were barely out of his mouth when Sarah’s voice came through the phone. 

“Xavier, 1 have an urgent document here“! . 

“Ms. Lynde?” Xavier stopped and unlocked the phone, only to realize it was Sarah calling 

hesitated before continuing, “Thave a document here that needs your signature online.”
