Chapter 146 

The room was suddenly flooded with light. Lily instinctively narrowed her eyes and saw Xavier striding toward her. 

The chill of early winter still clung to him, seeping into her skin and making the exposed parts of her arms prickle with goosebumps, 

“Are you not eating?” He stood by the bay window, single–handedly unbuttoning one of his sleeves. His deep gaze carried an unusual trace of gentleness as he looked down at her. 

Lily didn’t look up, so she didn’t notice the expression in his eyes. “I’m not hungry,” she replied honestly. 

She had no interest in continuing with the design work for Glenview Villa after blocking Sarah on WhatsApp. 

She was being eliminated from the competition, and the future of her career was uncertain. The fact that she was still alive and hadn’t succumbed to despair felt like an achievement in and of itself. 

Her resistance toward him yesterday had been due to a bad mood, but now, the frustration that radiated from her was directed squarely at Xavier. 

Xavier saw the design sketched on her computer and assumed her distress was work–related. 

He 

said patiently, “Just quit if you’re unhappy. That job barely pays enough every month. It isn’t worth ruining your health…” 

Do I have the luxury to be reckless?” Lily Interrupted and lifted her gaze as she stared at him unblinkingly. “Can I just stop working if I’m unhappy? If that’s the case, I don’t want to be your…” 

She intended to say she didn’t want to be his wife anymore. Why wouldn’t he divorce her? Her words were caught in her throat. The truth was that Xavier didn’t want a divorce, and she couldn’t afford one. 

“My what?” His face immediately darkened. He leaned in and gripped her chin with his slightly cool fingers. “Lily, have I been spoiling you too much? Have I made you think that you can do whatever you please?” 

He shouldn’t have given her an out back then. He should’ve followed her to the court and signed the papers back when they were about to get divorced. Perhaps she would then listen then! 

Lily’s crimson lips curled faintly as she showed a hint of sarcasm. She was spoiled? 

“I think you don’t need any comfort at alll Xavier released his grip forcefully and glanced at her briefly before turning around and striding into the 

bathroom 

Lily slid down from the bay window and collapsed onto the white carpet. She propped herself up with her hands. Her gaze blurred with moisture as he watched his retreating figure disappear from her sight. 

Comfort? She did need it but not his. She calmed herself and packed her laptop into her bag before heading downstairs. 

She still had to eat even though she had no appetite. She was allowed to feel exhausted, but she couldn’t break down 

Her attitude tonight might have been too much. Xavier was so furious that he didn’t come down for dinner. 

Xavier was nowhere to be seen when she returned to the bedroom after the meal. He stayed in the study room the entire night and only returned to the bedroom to get changed the next morning 

The noise woke Lily. However, she kept her back to him as if she was still asleep. 

Xavier glanced at her back coldly after getting changed before leaving the room with a cold expression.
