Terence saw right through Lily’s pretense. He grasped her wrist and guided her through the crowd to a quiet corner of the exhibition hall. 

“It’s fine that you don’t have any expectations. However, you should demand absolute fairness and justice when it comes to competition. You don’t have to tell me what happened, but you can’t just give up like that. 

Not giving up? Lily pursed her lips lightly and averted her gaze. 

She couldn’t muster the courage to seek fairness and justice, let alone look him in the eye. However, she didn’t want to show her grievances in front Terence either. 

“Fairness and justice aren’t something everyone is qualified to pursue.” 

Terence was even more puzzled. “But you’re different. You have Xavier. How could you” How could she not have the right to pursue fairness and justice? 

However, a realization struck him halfway through his sentence, and his voice abruptly trailed off. A flicker of disbelief reflected in his gentle eyes. Upon seeing his expression, Lily knew he had pieced it together. A faint blush spread across her cheeks, embarrassment washing over as if her secret had been exposed 

“I’m sorry. This is your private matter. I shouldn’t have pried.” 

She lowered her head, leaving only the crown of her hair bathed in the golden sunlight visible to him. 

Although the warm sunlight was cast on her, it couldn’t conceal the sadness and heaviness that radiated from her. 

He lifted his hand, intending to pat her head but thought better. Instead, he gently tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear 

Lily always found it easy to shake off her emotions whenever she was around Terence. 

She raised her head and forced a smile. “You don’t even need to pry. Some things can be understood without the need to say it. Maybe he just wants me to be his wife without worrying much.” 

She left herself a shred of dignity, keeping to herself the fact that Xavier had sent her to Sarah just to let her vent her frustrations. 

“Is that what you want? just to be his wife?” Terence asked earnestly. 

Her throat tightened. She shook her head and smiled helplessly. “I don’t have a choice.” 

One night was enough for her to adjust her mindset. She had no choice but to compromise for Hayden’s medical bills. 

The job. The competition… She wanted to let go of everything. Hayden’s illness would eventually be cured. She would eventually be free. It was only a 

matter of time. 

“Well then, at least you still have the right to decide whether to continue viewing this exhibition.” Terence changed the topic. He glanced toward the crowd. “So, shall we keep going?” 

Lily answered without hesitation, “Yes.”
