Chapter 156
Terence wasn’t sure of the specific reason.
“I’m only asking for fairness and justice. Is that difficult for you?” Terence fixed a sharp gaze at Lawrence.
Lawrence shook his head instinctively. “Not at all, fairness and justice are as they should be!”
With Lawrence’s reassurance, Terence’s expression softened. “I won’t interfere with the competition, but I will keep a close watch. If you need anything from me, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
In an instant, a heavy wave
of
pressure settled over Lawrence.
“It is our honor to have Mr. Devereux following the competition,” he said, at a loss for words.
After he left Lupier, Lawrence instructed his team to deliver Lily’s design draft to the judges, He held onto a sliver of hope that Lily might be eliminated on her own, then he would not have to give Sarah an explanation.
But to his astonishment, Lily advanced after an hour. He gritted his teeth and decided to feign ignorance. He would only deal with Sarah if she confronted
him first.
Jadeford welcomed its first snow of early winter. As the night fell and the city lights came on, everything was blanketed in white.
Xavier drove away from Nova Group with his chin resting on his fingers as he gazed out at the scenery.
At the traffic light junction, he stopped the car. Timothy looked at a message before slowly speaking, “Mr. Fulton, Mr. Blackwood wants some imported machinery. It’ll be 7 million dollars. Should we approve it?”
The amount was too large for Timothy to not report it to Xavier.
“Give him what he wants,” Xavier said. He had a feeling that Rowan might be using the situation to make a point.
The equipment he wanted had nothing to do with Hayden’s illness, but Rowan wasn’t one to waste money for no reason. It had to be for some experiment.
Timothy hesitated to continue.
Xavier narrest is eyes slightly. “Speak up if you have something to say.”
Mr. Blackwood is always one to take advantage. I’m just afraid he will use Hayden’s matter as an excuse to demand more. Aren’t you still upset with Mrs. Fulton?” Timothy wondered.
The whole company had been on eggshells the entire day. It was obvious that Xavier was angry at Lily’s secret meeting with Terence yesterday. Timothy assumed that since Xavier was angry at Lily, he wouldn’t care about Hayden anymore.
“Did you think that I’m helping Hayden because of Lily?” Xavier suddenly laughed. It couldn’t be, as he was only doing it to ease his conscience. It had nothing to do with Lily.
Timothy kept quiet. He found it hard to believe Xavier. If Hayden weren’t Lily’s brother, there wouldn’t be a reason for Xavier to bring that troublemaker, Rowan, back. And Rowan was a huge financial drain.
Xavier had even invested in the Avelon Designs Competition. Timothy had taken note of every matter and incident. But since Xavier wouldn’t admit it, Timothy didn’t dare to call it out,
“No, you have your reasons for everything you do, Mr. Fulton,” Timothy said instead.
Xavier scoffed lightly and dismissively sneered at the absurd idea.
