Chapter 81 

Lily was willing to humble herself. Xavier didn’t seem as happy as she’d expected him to be. Conversely, the look in his eyes darkened markedly. 

Would she be willing to degrade herself to this degree just to get divorced? 

He narrowed his eyes and rubbed the face of his watch gently. 

He was silent for a moment and said in an impassive voice, “Apart from that, before you manage to ask her to come back, you must do your duty as a wife in the time remaining before the divorce.” 

Lily’s throat tightened. It was Saturday. That meant that she would have to return to Fulton Manor with him. 

Well, they weren’t divorced yet. If it caught the Fultons‘ attention, it would be difficult to go through with it. 

Although the Fultons treated her very well and she’d known them for two years, she wasn’t sure what a prestigious family like them would think about a man having an affair. They might not think of it as an unforgivable act. 

If the entire affair was exposed and they scolded Xavier on her behalf and told her not to get divorced, what could she do? 

She didn’t want to get herself in a difficult position, so it would be better to keep it a secret for now. 

However, her patience was running thin. 

Xavier’s handsome face was reflected in her eyes. Every moment spent with him felt like torture, as it was filled with pain and heartache. 

Xavier saw how aggrieved she looked, and he tapped on the edge of the table with a finger. “I won’t force you to do anything. If you don’t agree, then take the divorce agreement and leave.” 

“I agree.” Lily confirmed it once again with him. “However, you must promise me that you’ll sign the divorce agreement when the time comes.” 

Her eagerness to get divorced aroused a strange desire in Xavier’s heart. 

He couldn’t stand having her oppose him. He wanted more than ever to see her the way she’d been before, when there had been stars in her eyes whenever she’d looked at him. 

His lips moved slightly, and he said noncommittally, “If you persist, I have no reason not to agree.” 

Lily thought for a moment. She’d said everything she needed to say, and there was no reason for Xavier not to divorce her. 

“Alright.” She put the divorce agreement down and left. She decided to go to Fulton Manor first. 

As always, she bought a few pastries that were to Edith’s taste, and she reached Fulton Manor at 10:00 am. 

The moment she walked in, Edith came out to greet her. “Lily! Are you feeling better?” 

Lily paused in the middle of changing her shoes. It took her a moment to remember that she hadn’t visited last week. Perhaps Xavier had made up an excuse about her not feeling well. She nodded and took Edith’s outstretched hand. “I’m alright, Edith. I’m sorry for making you worry.” 

Edith’s face crinkled into a smile. “I’m glad you’re alright. I haven’t seen you for half a month, and I’ve missed you so much! Talk to me!” 

Whenever Lily visited, she spent most of her time talking to Edith. Tamara was out on a business trip, and Shane had gone with her, so Edith was the only one at home. 

Edith was so happy to have Lily back that she didn’t even take her afternoon nap. She talked to Lily for the entire afternoon. 

That evening, Xavier came back right on time for dinner. 

At the dinner table, Edith continuously put food on Lily’s plate. “Why do I feel like you’ve lost weight?” 

Upon hearing this, Xavier leaned backward and glanced at Lily. She was sitting next to him, and he could smell a faint floral fragrance on her.
