Lily had a bad feeling about this. She pressed her lips tightly together and frowned. 

“Please have a seat while you wait. We’ll definitely discuss the divorce today,” Xavier said, gesturing toward the orange couch at the center of his office. 

Upon receiving his reassurance, Lily turned around and took a seat. She was curious to see what Xavier was up to this time. 

Time passed by slowly. Timothy brought in a cup of coffee for her before quietly leaving the room. 

The silence in Xavier’s office was so profound that even the faintest sound felt amplified in the open space. 

Lily started to grow uneasy once again. She could almost hear the pounding of her heartbeat grow stronger with each passing moment. 

Across the room, Xavier seemed to be completely unfazed. He held a cigarette between his slender fingers and casually took a drag. Then, he gently puffed out the smoke, letting wisps of smoke curl into the air. 

The scene appeared perfectly calm, yet Lily couldn’t help but feel her anxiety heightened. 

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Timothy walked in and said, “Mr. Fulton, Mr. Joyner has arrived.” 

Bobby followed closely behind Timothy with a hopeful smile on his face. 

“Oh, Lily’s here as well…” Bobby said with a hint of surprise. The smile on Bobby’s face faltered slightly as he noticed Lily’s presence. 

Lily’s breath hitched. She turned to look at Xavier instinctively.. 

Was this who he’d meant when he’d said there was someone he had to meet first? Did he plan to bring up the divorce in front of Bobby? 

“Please, have a seat.” Xavier calmly took a seat behind his desk, completely ignoring Lily’s gaze. 

He interlaced his fingers and leaned his arms against the edge of the table, exuding a sense of authority. 

Bobby took a seat across the table. He spoke in a respectful tone. “I came here today to thank you personally. If it hadn’t been for your help, there is no way that Hayden would’ve been released so quickly.” 

Xavier casually turned his gaze toward Lily. He raised an eyebrow, and a smirk appeared on the corner of his lips. 

Upon hearing Bobby’s words, Lily instantly understood Xavier’s intentions. 

Her face turned pale, and she bit her lip nervously. 

“Also, I owe you an apology. With everything that happened with Hayden, I said things I shouldn’t have. I hope you won’t hold it against me. After all, we’re family, right?” 

Bobby thought he was being courteous. However, he had no idea how desperate he looked to others. 

Xavier couldn’t care less about Bobby’s apology. In fact, he hadn’t intended to give Bobby the chance to apologize at all. 

However, he knew this would send a strong message to Lily–she was in no position to demand a divorce! 

He turned his gaze toward her, as though waiting for her to catch on. 

The paler her face became, the clearer it was that she understood the Joyner family’s fragile standing. Lily was a smart woman–she would know what to do.
