Chapter 401 Irreplaceable

“Alright,” Easton replied, carrying the bags into the elevator.

Only when she saw him disappear behind the elevator doors did Maya slowly unlock the front door and stroll into the apartment.

The living room was empty, and the place was quiet. As usual, she headed toward her best friend’s bedroom.

Spotting Ellis lying on the bed, arms crossed and expression sullen, Maya didn’t even walk over. She stopped at the doorway,

“Your ex–husband tried to hand me something to bring to you,” she said casually. “I turned him down.”

Ellis didn’t look surprised. “Good job. Ignore him next time. Pretend Ise doesn’t exist.”

Maya smirked. “I’m gonna get changed and head out. Won’t be back tonight. See you tomorrow.”

Where are you going?” Ellis asked, immediately thinking of one person. “You’re spending the night with Cameron again?”

“Ding ding ding. Congratulations. You got it right.”

“..Just be safe,” Ellis sighed. There was nothing more to say

Maya and Cameron were physically involved–mutual, consensual, and frankly none of her business.

At their age, people had needs. As long as Maya was taking precautions, there was no issue.

Now that no one was bothering her, Ellis tried to go back to sleep. But sleep wouldn’t come. She ended up mindlessly scrolling on her phone..

At some point, she shifted onto her side.

A sharp, familiar ache tugged at her chest. She frowned.

That pain again?

Was her period coming?

She mentally calculated the timing since her last cycle. Yeah, it was about that time.

Suddenly, a memory flashed–those vivid dreams during her work trip. And just now, she’d caught herself thinking about needing relief.

Maybe life had been too calm lately. Too little stress. Too liule male presence. Her long–neglected physical needs were finally catching up.

She rolled back onto her back and forced herself to stay focused.

Easton stood alone by the floor–to–ceiling window, his reflection ghosted in the glass, face tight with frustration.

He never thought an old engagement would stand in the way of his present feelings.

After drawing a hard line with Easton, Ellis enjoyed a blissfully quiet few days.

Her ex stopped bothering her.

His presence faded into the background, and she could pretend he didn’t exist.

She drafted her resignation letter, printed it, and walked it to Maxwell’s office.

Maxwell didn’t even glance up, busy working. He didn’t notice the envelope in her hand.

Ellis placed the letter beside his keyboard and smiled.

“Mr. Fox, this is my resignation. Please take a look,”

Maxwell slowly raised his head as if in slow motion.

“Resignation” he repeated, confused. “You’re quitting?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

He closed the folder in his hands and picked up the letter, opening it leisurely. “Why?”

“Thank you for everything. Mr. Fox. It’s been an honor working under you. I’ve learned a lot.”
