Chapter 163 Cousins

Ronald spoke again at the family gathering. “By the way, the goods from Mr. Lewis will arrive at the port the day after tomorrow night, and we’ve also planned a celebration for Luster Corporation in the evening.”

Maggic frowned slightly and asked, puzzled, “A celebration?”

Ronald smiled as he explained, “Oh right, Maggie, I forgot to mention this to you. Since the company’s launch, we’ve had a large number of high–end jewelry pre–orders, and even our ordinary products are selling well.

“Is it going that well? It sounds like a roaring success!” Maggie spoke, her tone laced with happiness.

Olivia chimed in with excitement, “Mrs. Harris and Old Madam Harris themselves attended and placed. orders for several pieces. Once they showed up, other prestigious families followed, and the orders just skyrocketed.

The Harris!

The mention of the Harrises sent Maggie’s thoughts to Nathael.

He promised he would help increase her orders, and it turned out he really did.

“Maggie, does this have anything to do with Nathael? His family showing up is a big deal for us.” Ronald was clearly in a good mood at the thought.

At the mention of Nathael, Joseph’s expression soured.

Maggie shook her head and said, “Dad, I’ve been abroad these past few days. I have no idea how the

company is doing, and I neversed it with Nathael. I think it’s our brilliant designs and the big move

that drew the Harrises. It’s our achievement.”

Maggie didn’t plan to take credit for this situation. When the truth was revealed and they faced those high compensation costs, it wouldn’t be nice if the blame fell on her.

But she also knew that, at the end of the day, she might still face suspicion.

All because of that idiot, Joseph!

If he hadn’t found the access card and confronted her, her relationship with Nathael would remain a secret, and she would steer clear of the situation.

Maggie dismissed her musings as futile.

Every situation had its pros and cops; not everything could go as she planned.

Ronald nodded, pleased. “No matter how you look at it, it’s a good thing. If our company can secure a spot in the jewelry market, we can gradually shift our family’s focus to this industry.”

The Camerons were evidently in good spirits, tasting the sweetness of early success, eager and ready for

action.

Maggie smiled, her face showing happiness, but her eyes held a chill.

Chapter 163 Cousins

Maggie wondered if they would still be smiling when it all closed in.

After leaving Cameron’s residence with Luens, both of them seemed much more relaxed.

Maggie couldn’t resist rulling Lucas’s hair. The boy, who used to be about her height, was now so tall that she had to stand on tiptoes and reach up to touch it.

“You’ve grown so tall,” Maggie couldn’t help but remark.

Lucas cracked a smile and said, “This height of mine is perfect.

“Don’t get cocky!” Maggie laughed as her recent irritations were eased by Lucas’s return.

“Messing things up,” Maggie replied with a mischievous glint in her eye.

Besides, if he had been drifting aimlessly for so long, no one would be too wary of him, which could lead to acquiring different kinds of information.

Your parents left you quite a bit of wealth. This is what I’ve compiled that rightfully belongs to you. Some of it you were tricked into transferring to Ronald’s name, and after many board member changes, even if you managed to reclaim it, nobody would take orders from you.”

Back then, Maggie was the only one who was truly kind to him.

It wasn’t the kind of kindness like Joseph’s, who gave him piles of toys he disliked or dragged him to amusement parks without remembering his knee injury.

She would remember the anniversaries of his parents‘ deaths, know his likes and dislikes in flavors, and understand his fears and insecurities in a strange bedroom at night.

To Lucas, Maggie was much more than she was to Sierra and Joseph.

Even though there was no blood relation, he was still fond of Maggie.

She would forge a parent’s signature on his report card when he couldn’t find anyone to sign; she quietly bought him medicine when she noticed he was trying to endure an illness in silence.

Maggie would gift him beautiful robots, model cars, and planes to assemble. She noticed when his pants grew too short and his shoes too tight, and she was there to comfort him when he secretly cried for his missing parents.

To Lucas, Maggie was truly like a sister.

For him, the Cameron household was no longer a cage or a hollow shell; because of Maggie, it had become

warm

He didn’t care for the Camerons, but he did care for her

Lucas had always tried to like them a bit more, but as time passed, it just led to more disdain for them.

Only now did he truly see the Camerons‘ true colors.

It was bad enough for them to mistreat him, but they also treated Maggie as a pawn. It was truly ridiculous.

“But Uncle is cautious and suspicious. He won’t give me a chance,” Lucas muttered, returning to the present.

Maggie smiled and blinked. She said. “If he won’t give it to you, just ask him. You’ve returned from studying abroad and are struggling to make a living. What’s wrong with your uncle taking care of you?”
