Felicity immediately understood her intentions and nodded. “Alright, I’ll leave

Mackenzie chuckled. “Even if you’re my mom, I should still thank you for 

always taking care of our son.” 

“Fine, have it your way.” 

Felicity started to leave but stopped a few steps later. She pulled out a jade 

pendant and handed it to Emmanuel. 

“Oh, Emmanuel, Mackenzie mentioned you’ll be heading to Zovince soon. I’ve 

got this jade pendant that once belonged to Sarah. If you’re interested, take it

Emmanuel sighed with a wry smile and said, “You’re right. I’ve been thinking that once I deal with Teddy and help Ethan become the leader, I’ll resign from all my military duties and stay with you and the baby. But the General wants 

to recommend me to take his place.” 

Mackenzie, understanding his dilemma and not wanting him to push the 

decision onto her, smiled gently. “Well, if you do decide to take the position, I 

won’t stay as Chairman of the Nuthana Chamber of Commerce either. If 

you’re heading to the Northern Region, we’ll follow you.” 

“That’s not happening.” 

Emmanuel shook his head firmly. “The Northern Region is too harsh for 

women and children. If Caden grows up wanting to serve the country, I’ll fully 

support him. But for now, I want him to have a happy childhood.” 

Mackenzie nodded in agreement. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. As 

parents, that’s the least we can do for him. Happiness is what matters most.” 

While Mackenzie didn’t outright say whether she supported Emmanuel taking 

the marshal’s position, her words conveyed her feelings clearly enough. 

Emmanuel understood, and it only strengthened his resolve. 

After laying their sleeping son down, Mackenzie took Emmanuel’s hand

Mackenzie smiled and added, “That’s why you have to protect him. If he 

succeeds in this relief effort, his support will skyrocket, and he’ll have a reat

“Don’t worry, I’ve got his back,” Emmanuel assured her, gripping her hand 

tightly. 

Their eyes locked, and the atmosphere between them heated up. 

Though a new father, Emmanuel was no stranger to being a husband. He 

couldn’t resist pulling Mackenzie into a tight embrace and kissing her 

passionately.

Mackenzie closed her eyes, savoring the rare moment of closeness:

Emmanuel—who had the strength of a warrior–soon fell into a deep sleep. 

The next morning, Mackenzie woke to the smell of breakfast. 

“Wow, it’s been ages since you made breakfast!” 

She was clearly impressed. 

The last time Emmanuel had cooked her breakfast was before their mission 

to Dark Night Islands. 

“Then eat up!” 

He chuckled. “I’ll be heading back to Ethan soon.”

As soon as he said that, a hint of frustration crossed his face. I can’t stay with 

my wife and kid, but I’ve got to go guard some old man instead. Life can 

really be cruel sometimes. 

Mackenzie, seeing his mood, squeezed his hand and said with a comforting 

smile, “Take care of the important things first. Once the election is over and 

you’re back, I’ll make you breakfast.” 

“Really?” 

Emmanuel’s eyes lit up with excitement. 

“Of course! Just don’t go telling me that while others charge for their cooking, 

mine could cost you your life!” Mackenzie teased. 

“Hahaha! I’d eat anything you make–even if it’s a rock!” Emmanuel laughed 

joyfully. 

The couple snuggled together, enjoying their brief time of peace.

As always, happy moments never lasted long. After breakfast, Emmanuel 

had to return to Ethan’s side and continue his work in disaster relief. 

Meanwhile, Mackenzie went back to the relief center to handle the logistics
