Irvin had never felt any real attachment to Agatha. He knew exactly how biased she was, so her wildly one-sided words didn't make him feel hurt or upset at all.

He just smiled and said, "Sorry, Mrs. Hardwell. Back then, I was in a bad shape and didn't want to live. You wanted my life, so I offered it. But I've changed my mind now and want to live. So, no, I'm not giving you my life."

Agatha nearly lost her mind hearing that. "You ungrateful bastard! How dare you!"

She'd believed all that sweet talk he'd said back then, so much so that she'd actually been moved. She'd even started to question whether she was too cruel for wanting her own son dead.
