Chapter 50 

Frank’s lips moved, but he couldn’t utter a single word. 

“Feeling guilty? Can’t speak now? I haven’t exposed you yet! And you wanted to expose Dom? Just leave! You’re not welcome here! 

“What goes around, comes around. Everything happens for a reason, and the downfall of the Sinclair family is no exception. This cold–hearted family deserved to end a long time ago!” 

Heather said, feeling her eyes painful. 

Despite the years that had passed, the memories of what had happened still caused her heartache. 

Worried that Heather might reveal everything, Frank said nothing more, quickly picked up his cane, and hurried away. 

But Heather didn’t move. She looked down, and suddenly, tears started falling from her face. 

Dominick was taken aback, feeling an inexplicable discomfort in his heart. 

“It’s in the past now. Don’t cry,” Dominick managed to say, struggling to find comforting words. 

Heather shook her head, wiping away the tears from her eyes. 

“It’s okay. It’s just that thinking about the past suddenly brings back these shadows, 

“But I’m not upset for myself. I feel like I’ve let you and your grandma down. 

“If I had been stronger or more capable back then, maybe none of this would have happened. 

“All these years, it’s you who have suffered. I failed in my duties as a mother. I’m sorry” 

Heather’s tears fell once again. This time, she made no effort to hide them, letting them stream down her face. 

Dominick felt his heartache, a pain through his chest, 

After he learned the truth, his resentment towards Heather had faded. 

He understood that Heather, alone against them, stood no chance, 

Perhaps because so much time had passed, even though misunderstandings had been cleared up, he still couldn’t call her “mom.” 

It had nothing to do with hate. 

“It’s okay. I accept all your resentment towards me. It’s my fault. I…” Heather’s voice choked up. She was unable to finish her words 

After a while, Heather regained her composure and softly said, “Since you’re awake, let me get the apple pie I made for you. I remember you didn’t like sweets as a kid but always loved my apple pie.” 

As Heather slowly turned around, Dominick inexplicably felt her silhouette burdened with something heavy, somewhat worn, and helpless. 

He felt suffocated. 

Two forces seemed to be battling within him./ 

Eventually, one force prevailed. 

Chapter 50 

“Mom.” 

Heather’s eyes suddenly widened, and her raised foot slowly settled back down. 

Even with her back to Dominick, her trembling shoulders revealed her inner turmoil. 

Finally, she couldn’t hold back her tears, filled with years of longing and sorrow for her son. 

“I finally…I finally hear you call me that again. I thought…I thought I’d never hear it again in my life… 

The barriers in Dominick’s heart finally dissolved. How could he bear any resentment towards his own mother? 

“We’ll always be together from now on.” Dominick walked over and embraced Heather. 

This feeling was unfamiliar, yet not entirely so. 

It was a wonderful feeling that had been missing for a long time. 

Ethan, who had woken up at some point, stood by the staircase, watching them, feeling relieved. 

Heather deserved sympathy. 

From the very beginning, he noticed that Heather seemed to have no family, and her daily routine was quite repetitive. 

Perhaps her face was the reason she had never made friends. Her days were spent hypnotizing Lola and researching how to cure her illness. 

After all, he really owed Heather a big thank you. 

The last bit of disdain Ethan felt for Dominick quietly vanished. 

“Ethan? Are you awake too? What am I even doing?” Heather, noticing Ethan, wiped away her tears and tried to sound casual. 

“Now that you’re up, I’ll prepare dinner for you two. Is there anything you’d like to eat?” 

Ethan gently shook his head. “No need, I’m not really hungry.” 

“Alright, I won’t ask anymore. But you two have to hang okay?” 

Heather went straight into the kitchen. 

They exchanged glances and seemed to agree silently not to disappoint Heather’s kindness. 

And so, the three of them lived together at Ethan’s place. 

Aside from the Sinclair family, Dominick had many other places he could stay, but he chose not to move out of Ethan’s house. 

Firstly, staying there allowed the two men to share any news about Lola more quickly. Secondly, it was inconvenient for Heather to take care of them if they were living separately, so Dominick stayed. 

A month passed just like that. 

During that month, they turned Talondria upside down, but there was still no news of Lola. 

Neither man had let up for even a day, yet there was not a single piece of news. 

Ethan was incredibly anxious, barely speaking all day, and his complexion was terrible. 

“What’s wrong? You look off. Did you think of something?”
