Chapter 69 

It started raining outside. 

Dominick got drunk, and the room was cluttered with bottles. He leaned back on the sofa with his eyes closed and brows furrowed, looking deeply troubled. 

With extraordinary status and influence in the business world, he was now drunk and disheveled. 

Ethan felt conflicted seeing Dominick like this. He never imagined that someday he would witness such desolation in such a prestigious man. 

He didn’t say a word because Ethan knew deep down that anything said at this moment would be too frivolous.

Ethan couldn’t do much to help Dominick at this point, only accompany him there. 

Suddenly, thunder rumbled outside, and Dominick abruptly opened his eyes, a nervous tension in his gaze. 

His nearly unconscious mind seemed to snap awake in an instant. 

“Oh no, it’s raining! 

“Lola is terrified of rainy days. I need to find her. I need to be with her.” He struggled to stand up. 

Ethan frowned, feeling sorry for Dominick. 

“Dom, it’s okay. From now on, she won’t hurt herself on every rainy day.” 

Dominick suddenly quieted down, slumping heavily onto the sofa. 

Dominick’s energy seemed to vanish all at once. His eyes were empty, and he looked like a mere shell of himself. 

“Yeah.” 

He needed not to worry about her self–harm on rainy nights. 

From now on, she would sleep peacefully, living like a normal person. 

Suddenly, Dominick laughed. 

He thought wasn’t this good? 

She could live happily, just like the first time they met, unaffected by a terrible life. 

She wouldn’t have to live with resentment anymore. She could go shopping, eat desserts, and have crushes on boys. 

She would fall in love with another boy again, and Dominick felt his heartache almost suffocate him.

Everything would be fine, except that he wouldn’t be in her life anymore. 

Dominick laughed until tears streamed down his face. 

Ethan couldn’t bear it anymore. He rushed over, grabbing Dominick’s collar, almost lifting him up! 

“Dominick, can you pull yourself together? Who are you? You’re Dominick! If you keep falling like this, can you face Layla?” 

Having seen Dominick at his peak, Ethan couldn’t stand seeing him in this state!

Dominick almost lost his mind, and Ethan held onto his collar tightly, trying to lift his spirits. 

“Dominick, what I mean is, even if you can’t be with Layla now, if you pull yourself together, at least you can still see her, right? 

“If you don’t understand what I mean, I can clarify it. For example, what if, just what if, there are so many unexpected things in the world? How do you know Layla can’t fall in love with you again?” 

Even Ethan was surprised when he said this. 

He used to dislike Dominick, but now he could say such things.

Dominick, upon hearing this, finally regained some of his former confidence. 

“Are you serious about what you just said?” 

Ethan blinked slightly. “What? Which part?” 

“About her…liking me again,” Dominick said cautiously. 

Dominick had never felt so nervous, even faced with a multi–billion–dollar contract, but asking this question made him feel like a child hoping for candy.

“Of course, are you still thinking about…” Ethan couldn’t help but finish his harsh words when he saw Dominick’s expression. 

Ethan pressed his lips, loosened Dominick’s tie, and cleared his throat, avoiding eye contact. 

“Um….get yourself together first before you say anything. Things can change. What you see now might not be the same later, but if you keep like this, you won’t have a chance in the future.” 

Dominick seemed to snap out of it all of a sudden, the cold indifference returning to his deep gaze. 

“I will go rest. Goodbye.” 

Ethan was speechless. 

“Damn it, were you really not pretending to be drunk just now?” 

“Ethan, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?” 

The medical team of the Lewis family was truly remarkable. 

Lola had only been back for a week, and her injuries were almost healed. 

She had become a bit plumper than before, making her even more beautiful.
