"Hello Mrs. Martinez, I am Melissa––"
"I heard you are the first-time sweetheart," my mom said, cutting her off. "Emily, is this really necessary?" My mom asked, trying to mask her annoyance but was failing miserably.
"Yes, it is. You know I need to be assured you will be okay since Grace won't be here to take care of you anymore and even though Paul stops by a couple of times, he's a doctor and he can't be here with you every day." My mother didn't like the idea of having a live-in nurse in her home, but because I pleaded with her and showed her what can happen when she's the only one here, she agreed.
"Okay," she grumbled.
"Is everything okay?" We heard a deep voice booming. Turning our heads in the direction the voice came from, we saw that it was Adam.
"Adam," my mother gushed. Rolling my eyes at her behavior, I hoped and prayed she won't say anything embarrassing like what she did at the hospital a few weeks ago.
"Mrs. Martinez," he smiled while hugging her tightly. Pulling from his embrace, she pinched his cheeks which caused him to laugh.
"Mom, I have to go," I said in an annoyed tone. I was jealous that he didn't even acknowledge me and I was the one with who he was going to Paris with.
"Okay sweetheart," she replied before hugging me once more and kissing me on the cheek. Bidding her and Melissa goodbye once again, Adam took my suitcase and we made our way to the door.
"Emily, don't forget to use condoms," my mom shouted after me. I could hear snickering in the room and I wanted to jump off from the top of the building.
Looking at Adam, he had a dark look in his eyes and he had one of his famous smirk resting on his lips.
"Don't you dare say a word," I growled. Nodding his head while laughing, we exited my apartment and made our way outside to the car. Putting my bags inside the trunk, Adam opened my door and waited until I got in before he came inside. Bidding me good morning, James started the ignition before driving off. No words were exchanged between Adam and I and I was happy for that even though I was wondering what he was thinking.
Settling down comfortably, I made a mental note to call my mother as soon as we land. She had totally embarrassed me today and I honestly did not like it one bit.
Thinking back to what she said, I chuckled and I didn't realize it was out loud until Adam spoke.
"What's so funny?"
"Huh?" I asked dumbfounded.
"You chuckled, so I am asking you what's so funny."
"Did I now?"
"Yes, you did. So, tell me."
"It was nothing." I couldn't tell him I was laughing because if I did, he would remember what she had said and I couldn't deal with being embarrassed all over again.
