Everett's gaze was as cold as ice, clearly not happy that a phone call was holding up their takeoff. Alex felt a tight knot in her stomach; she'd never dare with anyone else, but with him, she had no choice.

She quickly added, "It's Josh on the line. He insisted you take it."

Everett's handsome face darkened even more, his lips set in a tight line, but he reached out to take the phone from Alex and put it to his ear.

"Hello, Grandpa."

Josh’s voice blared through the phone, filled with anger, loud enough that everyone nearby could hear without needing the speaker.

"You reckless boy! Bring Selena back to see me now, unless you want to be responsible for my death!"

Everett tried to speak, but Josh cut him off. "Quiet! I don't want excuses. Either bring my granddaughter-in-law and great-grandson back, or come home to handle my funeral!"
