From the outside, it looked like she and Callum had cooked up this escape plan together, but she was doing it for her son! Selena's hands were clenched so tightly, her face had gone a shade paler. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. It was hard not to see her silence as an admission of guilt.

Everett's eyes grew colder, brimming with anger and jealousy. His whole presence seemed dangerous, and his words came out sharp, “Grandfather, you can see for yourself, I wasn’t unfair to her.”

Josh was taken aback, his old eyes examining Selena, who was staring at the ground in shame, before he turned to give Everett a piece of his mind. “Shut it. You’re at fault here too. Selena’s been nothing but devoted to you. Even a rock would’ve melted under her warmth. And you? You ignored her, brushed her aside, and had the nerve to be unfaithful, breaking her heart. Why wouldn’t she end up like this?”

Everett’s handsome face was dark as thunder after that.

Selena looked at Josh in shock. She never imagined that the man she’d spent years with had never truly trusted her, but here was her grandfather, standing by her side even when she couldn’t defend herself. Tears were starting to glisten in her eyes.

Everett got up, looking at Josh with disbelief, his words biting, “Grandfather, who’s your real grandson here?”

Josh swung his cane again, “Did I say you could stand up? If you weren’t my grandson, I’d break your legs!” He couldn’t believe Everett could treat his wife so poorly and still think he was in the right. It was downright disgraceful for the Bennett family!

He let out a heavy sigh, his eyes falling on the young couple. He was exhausted. He knew his time was running out, and he hadn’t expected to leave this world without seeing them happy together. It felt like he couldn’t rest in peace.

The butler quickly stepped in, offering water and helping him regain his composure. “Enough, I don’t want to waste any more words on you.” Josh dismissed the butler and turned to Everett again, his tone serious, “Every time that woman comes up, you get all upset. Now, I’m asking you, if you don’t want me meddling in your marriage, make your choice clear.”

His gaze shifted to Selena, “Between Selena and Margot, you can only choose one!”
