Noelle stood still, letting out a cold laugh.

Xenia staggered back, clearly startled. She hadn't expected Frank to be here! What should she do now?

Frank had just overheard her words!

Xenia nervously swallowed and stammered, "Frank, I was only concerned about Noelle. She's made so many enemies at school with what she did, and I was worried her time here might be difficult. I didn't mean anything by it."

However, Frank didn't buy it. He had clearly heard the mocking tone in her voice earlier.

His eyes narrowed—he was suspicious of Xenia's double-dealing. Was this why Noelle's relationship with the family had soured over time?

Frank turned to Noelle. "Noelle, don't hesitate to reach out to me if you ever run into any trouble. I've decided to move the company to Yasnia, so I'll always be close by."

Noelle's irritation grew. "I have just one request: stay away from me!"

She stormed down the stairs. Why couldn't the Liddell family ever just leave her be? It was so annoying! She didn't need Frank interfering in her life!

After Noelle left, Frank cast a meaningful look at Xenia. "Why didn't you fill us in on everything about Noelle?"

"I... I planned to, but Noelle insisted I mind my own business. I was going to come over today to check things out before deciding whether to inform you." Guilt rose in Xenia as she kept her eyes averted.

Frank's disappointment was palpable as he looked at her. "Xenia, have you ever lied to us before?"

"No, Frank, I've never lied to you, I swear!" Xenia's eyes reddened with frustration.

If this had happened in the past, Frank might have softened and let it go. But now, he felt nothing. He began to suspect that Xenia wasn't as innocent as she appeared. Perhaps all these years, he had been deceived by her.

A seed of doubt had taken root in him.
