"Ashley, have you ever stopped to wonder why your granddad chose to end it all right after my accident?" Nathalie asked, her voice laced with a hint of accusation.

Ashley shook her head, confusion etched on her face.

"Think about it," Nathalie pressed on. "Nathan, my husband, always dealt with the Stewart family through fair business means. But after my accident, he went full throttle against them. Doesn't that make you wonder if my accident was a setup by your family?"

Ashley's face lost all color.

Her grandfather's words echoed in her mind: "If he cares about Nathalie, then she's his Achilles' heel. Start with her."

Seeing Ashley's reaction, Nathalie's suspicions were confirmed.

"You know I'm linked to the Stewart family, yet they want to wipe me out," Nathalie said, her voice trembling. "They must be scared of a scandal breaking out, so they want to cut all ties. And now you're asking me to save them? Do you think I'm some kind of saint?"

Ashley's face was ghostly pale. "Nathalie, isn't there a way to make peace with the Stewart family? If you let them off the hook, I'll talk to my granddad and get him to agree to bring you back home."

Nathalie chuckled dryly, "Ashley, maybe I once longed for a father's love, but I've let that go. The Stewart family just isn't worth the heartache."

Ashley shivered, the reality dawning on her. The Stewart family wasn't in a position to reach Nathalie anymore.

Still, she persisted, "I get you're the respected Paige now, but high-society marriages can be short-lived, and having a solid family behind you is vital."

Before she could finish, the hospital room door swung open. Nathan stood there, his face a storm of emotions.

"My Nathalie owns Maple Corporation. Every dollar I make is hers. She's the richest woman in the Capital. She doesn't need anyone to boost her confidence."

Ashley was speechless.

The revelation that Nathalie owned Maple Corporation hit her hard.

Failing to win her over with logic, Ashley switched to emotions, "Nathalie, don't you care about family ties at all? What if your dad had his reasons back then?"

Nathalie's face darkened, "Get out."

Nathan's sharp gaze turned to Ashley, his voice icy, "Ashley, Nathalie's recovering. If you upset her, the Stewart family will pay dearly."

Ashley fled, embarrassed.

Nathan helped Nathalie settle down, "What got you so riled up?"

"They plotted against my life, and she has the nerve to ask me to value family ties?" Nathalie replied, her frustration clear.

Nathan frowned, "Regan was the one after you. What's odd is, Dustin seems clueless about the old man's schemes."
