Nathalie stood in the elevator, eyes glued to the digital display, her mind a jumble of thoughts. There was something oddly captivating about the man in the wheelchair, something she couldn't quite figure out.
He seemed so aloof, yet she felt this undeniable urge to get closer to him. She stole a quick glance his way, only to catch him tilting his head up. Even with his sunglasses on, Nathalie had this strange sense that he was watching her.
Startled, she quickly turned away, standing stiffly, and dared not look around. As soon as the elevator doors slid open, Nathalie made a quick exit.
Officer Luke's apartment was right next to the elevator. Nathalie took a deep breath at his door, just about to knock when a wheelchair rolled up beside her.
Surprised, she looked at the man, and his bodyguard quickly explained, "We're here to visit the homeowner too."
Nathalie stepped back, gesturing with her hand for them to go ahead. The bodyguard invited her, "Why don’t we go in together?"
He knocked on the door, and soon it swung open. It was Luke's wife who answered, her eyes showing a flicker of impatience. "Who are you looking for?" she asked, clearly not in the mood for visitors.
The bodyguard's voice was icy. "Is Luke home? My boss wants to see him."
His commanding tone immediately subdued her haughty attitude. Realizing the visitors were not to be taken lightly, she turned and called out, "Honey, someone’s here to see you."
Officer Luke appeared, his expression stern and not at all welcoming when he saw the unexpected guests. "What do you want?" He didn't even invite them in, clearly annoyed at the intrusion.
The man in the wheelchair snapped his fingers, and his bodyguard wheeled him inside. Nathalie, gathering her courage, followed them in.
Luke was fuming at their brazen entrance, but his anger soon turned to unease. The man in the wheelchair suddenly addressed Nathalie, "I’m not in a hurry. Ask him what you need to know."
"Does it matter who I am?" the man shot back, his presence commanding despite the wheelchair.
Luke clenched his jaw, "Guests should show some respect to their host."
"Do you deserve it?" came the sharp reply.
Luke was left speechless. Sensing his boss's anger, the bodyguard quickly advised Luke, "It's in your best interest to cooperate, Luke. You might not like what happens next if you don't."
Feeling cornered, Luke turned to Nathalie with a resigned look, "Alright, miss, go ahead and ask your questions."
