Lizzy walked in with a steaming cup of tea. “Here, sis, have some tea.”

Nathalie looked at Lizzy and suddenly grabbed her hand, her voice trembling. “Lizzy, will you ever leave me?”

Lizzy paused, momentarily lost in thought, then shook her head gently. “Sis, didn’t you once say that nothing lasts forever? People grow old, they move on. Eventually, everything changes.”

Overcome with emotion, Nathalie collapsed onto the dressing table, tears streaming down her face.

Lizzy’s own eyes welled up as she softly patted Nathalie’s back. “Don’t be sad, sis.”

“The master wouldn’t want you to be this upset. He must have something planned.”

Nathalie murmured, “I’ve always wondered why he’s so good to me. He married me when I wanted to, took wedding photos when I asked, and always supported my wishes. Yet, he never wants to share a room with me.”

“He fought with Cameron and wouldn’t let me see his injuries. He wanted to heal in secret.”

“I know he’s hiding something, but I didn’t realize it was life-or-death serious.”

“All I want is Nathan. I don’t care about his status. I just want him safe, to grow old with me. The rest doesn’t matter.”

Lizzy took a deep breath. “I know you’re upset, but you’ve got to focus. You’re visiting the Stewart estate today. The master warned there might be danger, so stay sharp. The old fox there has his own agenda. You need to be prepared.”

“Put aside your worries about the master for now.”

Nathalie nodded, feeling the weight of everything. “I understand.”

Nathan explained, “Your dad left his car at a garage for a check-up, but the mechanic messed with the tires. When he drove to get your mom some late-night snacks, the car exploded.”

“The mechanic disappeared soon after, but we tracked him down using some tech. He fled abroad and blew through the money he was paid. Now, broke and desperate, he confessed everything.”

Nathan paused. “Regan was the one who hired him.”

Nathalie was shaken to her core.

“Brothers, tearing each other apart over an inheritance—why?” Nathalie’s expression was filled with disbelief.

Nathan added, “Everyone’s motives are different. All you ever wanted was a stable home, so it’s hard to grasp how those who grew up in comfort can crave power so intensely.”
