Nathalie's mind was spinning with snapshots of recent events, replaying like a broken record. Her gut told her the truth she was chasing was just around the corner.
At Dawson Manor, Greta and Miranda stumbled back home, looking like they'd been through a storm. Greta, once filled with pride and lofty dreams, had been brought low by Lincoln. She felt as insignificant as a bug hiding from the light. She locked herself away, ignoring Miranda's pleas and attempts to coax her out.
When Cameron got home from work, the maid filled him in on Greta's situation: "Madam went to Stewart Corporation, hoping her well-off uncle could rescue her from her troubles. But she came back, shut herself in her room, and won't eat or drink. Who knows what went down?"
Cameron stayed calm, pretty sure Greta had hit a dead end at Stewart Corporation. He didn't feel sorry for Greta, just curious about how Lincoln was dealing with those who'd crossed his daughter. After all, he'd wronged Nathalie once too. If Lincoln couldn't let Greta off the hook, why would he forgive Cameron?
With that in mind, Cameron headed to Greta's room. As he got closer, he found Miranda in her wheelchair, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Greta, please, don't do this to your mom. It's all on me. I'll sort things out with Mr. Lincoln, I promise. I won't let him drag you into this mess."
Greta's voice shot out from behind the door, full of frustration: "Why do I have parents like you? You're both clueless and mean, taking someone else's child support and treating their daughter like dirt. Now his anger's on me. Just my luck."
"Why'd I have to be born to you guys?"
Miranda covered her face with her hands, crying, "I'm so sorry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have treated Nathalie like that… It's all on me..."
Cameron's face darkened as he walked over. Miranda looked at him like he was her last hope, letting out a sigh of relief: "Cameron, you're just in time. Help me get Greta to eat something."
But just as they reached the bottom of the stairs, Nina blocked their way. She was clutching her stomach, cheeks flushed, crying out, "Daddy, my tummy hurts. I think I'm dying."
In a panic, Cameron dropped Greta and rushed to Nina, checking her over: "What happened?"
"I ate some mango cake, and now I feel awful. Daddy, it's hard to breathe, my chest feels tight. Am I dying?" Nina's voice was soft and sweet, enough to melt anyone's heart.
In an instant, Cameron forgot all about Greta: "No, sweetheart. You're not going to die. Daddy's taking you to the hospital right now."
Leaving Greta behind, Cameron scooped up Nina and dashed out the door.
