The wind picked up, scattering dried leaves across the ground.

I watched one curl and tumble, my voice soft but firm. 

"Ethan, love isn't infinite."

"Those eight years drained every bit of love I had for you."

"Maybe, in a place you'll never know, I already died once because of you."

'But you didn't care then, and you don't care now." 

He shook his head stubbornly. 

"You're still hung up on Lily and Jack!"

"Fine, we'll move to a new city, cut them out completely. Would that work?" 

I didn't bother arguing. I turned and walked away. 

A few days later, I filed charges against Ethan and Lily for bigamy. 

The case was straightforward, and it didn't take long for the verdict to come in.

Ethan and Lily were sentenced to two years in prison. 

Ethan went to jail immediately, but Lily fled with Jack It took two weeks for the authorities to catch her in another state. 

When they found her, Jack was missing.

Ethan's parents were frantic, searching everywhere for their precious grandson.

When they finally found him, he had a broken leg. 

Turns out, Lily had abandoned him during her escape, thinking he'd slow her down.

Jack, smart for his age, had realized what was happening and tried to run after her.

He'd tripped and broken his leg, then spent over a week wandering alone without medical care, missing the window for proper treatment. 

At the prison visitation window, I told Ethan everything in detail. 

His face was pale, and he'd lost weight in just two months.

His voice was hoarse. 

"Do you hate me that much? You couldn't even spare me this one thing..." 

I looked at him coldly, my tone dripping with sarcasm. 

"Like you spared me?"

"Like you hid the fact that you had a ten-year-old son?"

"Like you slipped me birth control pills for eight years?" 

Ethan couldn't respond. He trembled, finally muttering, 

"I'm sorry."
