Larson paused, totally confused. “Wait; how is Maribel involved in this now?” he muttered, rubbing his forehead. He felt overwhelmed, like his brain couldn’t handle it all.

“Didn’t you notice,” Josie said with a bit of irony, “that Fergus and Elias

money, but only Elias is still alive?”

Larson’s heart skipped a beat. “Did Elias kill Fergus over some fight about the loot?”

“Bingo!” Sophia chuckled.

Sophia said coolly, “After they fought over splitting the money, Elias ended up killing Fergus. He kept all the cash for himself–that dirty money became

his start. That’s how he built his empire today.

“Maribel is Fergus’s daughter. She got the wedding ring that once belonged to Preston.

“Back then, Maribel was just a kid. After her father died, her mom scared of Elias–took her and ran away overnight.

“Larson, that’s all I have for you. The rest is up to you. I’m rooting for you.”

“Thanks a lot,” Larson muttered.

“Don’t mention it,” Sophia chuckled. “But if you really want to thank me, how about sending me more money? I won’t ask for much–just 300 thousand

will do.”

Larson said, “Fine, just wait.”

Sophia hung up. Larson rubbed his temples, trying to connect all these dots. ‘Wait–why am I even sending her money?‘ he thought, letting out a dry laugh. She tricked him again.

‘Whatever. She’s already set to get the fortune anyway–what’s the difference if I give it to her now or later?‘ Larson thought wryly. If Sophia knew what he was thinking, she’d probably tease him.

Just as Peggy walked in, Sophia went to her derm flask.
