Cherise looked at the audio Morris had fixed and took a deep breath 

She clicked twice on her computer, and a slightly chaotic audio played. 

The background hummed with static, mixed with occasional explosions. 

“Hello, who is this? Could you speak up a bit? It’s hard to hear you from here, someone said, her voice gentle yet firm. 

Cherise’s hands clenched into fists when she heard the voice–it was her mother’s voice. 

Even though she hadn’t heard it for many years, she recognized instantly. 

Morris sensed something was wrong with her and tightened his grip around her waist. 

The next moment, a somewhat familiar voice rang out. “Claire, are you okay?” 

When Cherise heard voice, a glint of anger flashed in her eyes. 

Claire seemed to have moved to a quieter place on the other end of the phone; the earlier noise faded. 

“Sorry, who are you?” Claire asked. 

“You don’t need to know who I am,” the other woman said provocatively, “but I want you to know I’m with Jacob, and we have a beautiful daughter together.” She ended with a burst of laughter. 

Claire sounded puzzled. “Are you insane? Who are you, really?” 

The other woman snapped, “Claire, don’t you just love the war–torn Astamia? Then stay there forever. 

“As for your husband, your family, and everything you’ve had you failed to cherish them, so you have no one to blame bur yourself. 

“And my daughter will gradually take your Cherise’s place as the young mistress of the Leach family.” 

Hearing Cherise’s name, Claire became anxious and furious. “I don’t care who you are. If you dare mess with my daughter, Ill head back to Clusia right away and find you by any means necessary.” 

However, as soon as she finished her sentence, she let out a sudden scream, followed by the dull thud of a phone hitting the ground along with someone collapsing. 

Cherise remained unfazed upon hearing it, looking calm as she gently closed her eyes. 

Morris knew she must be feeling terrible inside, so he reached out and pulled her into his arms. Cherise just let Morris hold her, expressionless. 

Then the audio continued. The other woman laughed and said, “Claire, surprised? From now on, I’ll be the mistress of the Leach family, the only one Jacob loves. 

“My daughter will gradually replace yours, while your bones remain forever buried in the war–torn soil of Astamia. “If you’re to blame anyone, blame yourself for not being there for your husband.” 

After that, there was no response from the other end of the line, with only faint sounds of explosions in the distance. 

After a moment, the woman let out a cold scoff and spoke again, seemingly addressing someone nearby. “Felix, thank you for everything. And, please, erase this call record for me.”

“You are the best?” said the woman.

Then she tried to stand up, only to find herself tightly held by Morris, unable to move.
