And just like that, things passed. Two days after Rayburn’s memorial service, Cherise sat by the bay window drawing. 

Thinking about the moments after meeting him and the punishment for Rita, she felt a bit unsatisfied. 

She thought, ‘Is the punishment for Rita not severe enough? Or was it that Mr. Muller shouldn’t have risked his life just for her to die? Actually, maybe it’s a little of both!

Her eyes moved to her canvas, which showed the lush summer banyan tree outside the window and the distant Azure Peak mountains. 

The colors done with the markers made the scene look almost exactly like the real one. However, there were two added figures, an old man and a young person. They seemed peacefully playing a game of chess under the large banyan tree. 

It was Monday; Morris had gone to work and there were no classes for her at Betrico University, so at home, it was just her and Hugh sitting by the door. 

The mid–hills of Azure Peak were very quiet, and from the entrance downstairs, the sound of car tires rubbing against the pavement could be heard. Additionally, there were the faint sounds of Hugh talking to someone. 

Cherise could tell that it wasn’t the sound of Morris’s car returning. She thought, ‘So, who could it be at this time?‘ 

Sure enough, a few minutes later, Hugh came upstairs to inform her, “Mrs. Chivers, Mr. Graves is here. He says he has something to discuss with you. 

“He insists on saying it in person, and there’s no getting rid of him. He says it’ll just be a few words and won’t take much of your time. If you don’t want to go down, I can send him away.” 

Cherise lifted her gaze, a bit surprised to see Nolan coming to find her at this time. She hesitated for a moment. “Okay, no worries. I’ll go take a look!” 

Downstairs, Nolan was leaning against his car, with his assistant, the half–blood Torin, by his side. 

When Torin saw Cherise coming down, he nudged Nolan. “Mr. Graves, look, she’s here!” 

Nolan glanced over and noticed her approaching, quickly standing up straight. “Hey, Cherise, you’re here! 

“I heard from Betrico University that you don’t have classes today and knowing you like to stay home. I thought I’d come by and try my luck. Didn’t expect to find here!”

Cherise knew he was straightforward, not having any bad intentions, and showed his feelings openly. She smiled. “Yeah, anything you need?” 

Hearing this, Nolan took a small gift box from his pocket and handed it to Cherise. “This is from Hannia, an early wedding gift for you. 

“She won’t be attending your wedding; it’s kind of inappropriate for her to come. But she actually can’t come anyway; she’s not in Clusia anymore.”

“Besides, I’m focused on my career now. Relationships can wait. It’s important to earn money.” 

Cherise understood and didn’t say anything more. After exchanging a couple of simple goodbyes, she turned around with Hannia’s gift and headed back to the Chivers Residence. 

On the ride back, Torin hesitantly asked Nolan, sitting in the back seat, “Mr. Graves, are you really not going to go after Ms. Hawkins?” 

Nolan shook his head. “You’ve been with me for so long, and you still don’t know my preferences?” 

Torin turned around, a bit surprised. “Are you telling me you don’t have any feelings for Ms. Hawkins at all? Then why did you let her stay in your apartment back then? Is it because it was Ms. Leach’s request?” 

Nolan nodded, simply said, “Yeah,” and then looked out the window. “Stop asking so many questions and go make some money!”
