Mayra realized that the route they were taking was toward the Barlow Estate. She was released when they reached the gates of the Barlow Estate. She looked at the tightly closed grand gate until a familiar person walked out. 

Caroline approached Mayra, sizing her up. “You look delicate, indeed. You won’t look bad at all when you grow up. Go inside. Madam Sonia 

is waiting for you.” 

Mayra raised her head to look at the luxurious mansion made of 

phoebe wood. It felt like she was experiencing a different life altogether. 

She had lived here for many years and thought she would never cross paths with these people again, but here she was once more. 

Mayra stepped over the threshold and walked into the living room Sonia was sitting in an armchair, and her hands rested on her cane. Her sharp, penetrating eyes were fixed on Mayra for a long time. 

After a while, she finally said, “It seems that spending a night locked up has indeed made you more obedient. A penniless orphan spending millions on jewelry and clothes with a mere wave of her hand. I’ve never seen someone who supposedly lived through hard times spend money so extravagantly. 

“If it’s money you want, I can give you a sum that you’ll never run out of in your lifetime in consideration of your parents being Anderson’s saviors. I can also find a good family to adopt you. 

“I’ll ensure that you’ll live a life of comfort and security. They won’t mistreat you with the Barlow family backing you.”

Chapter 145 

The idea of sending Mayra away had never stopped crossing Sonia’s 

mind. 

Mayra explained, “The card was given to me by Anderson.” 

Sonia remembered their first meeting vividly. Mayra had claimed to be a homeless orphan and that Anderson had suffered greatly while on the run, evading pursuers. Yet, he still managed to raise her to adulthood. 

Anyone could say such words but not Mayra. 

“Is Anderson someone you can address so casually? You have no manners and no respect. You should address him as Mr. Anderson!” 

Sonia’s tone was harsh. 

Mayra replied calmly, “I’m not worthy of being associated with the Barlow family. Even the maids here consider themselves superior. I dare not say a word more. After all, whatever you say is always right. 

“Yes, I lack manners and don’t understand the rules. But even if I end up on the streets fighting stray dogs for food, I would never stoop to 

theft. 

“The things I bought were merely to try and ease the 

misunderstanding between Anderson and Isabel. I didn’t spend a single cent of that money on myself. 

“I’ve said my piece. It’s up to you whether you believe me or not.” 

Sonia sneered. “I’ll find out the truth from Anderson himself. Do you know the consequences you’ll face If what you say is a lie? 

“The Barlow family’s money is not for just anyone to spend. As long as I don’t allow it, you’ll have to return every single cent.”
