The family doctor diagnosed Mayra with acute gastrointestinal bleeding, which was a recurring ailment. 

The doctor said, “This condition seems to be a chronic issue. It’s not easy to treat. It requires long–term care, and it’s best to get her to a hospital for intravenous therapy.” 

Caroline looked at Sonia with a troubled expression. “Alas, I didn’t 

expect such a young child to suffer from such a serious illness. If Mr. Anderson finds out about this when he returns, it might strain your relationship with him even further.” 

“What? Does he want to forsake his grandmother for an outsider?” 

Sonia retorted. 

“Well, Madam Sonia, you know his temper. He’s not the same as when he was a child. He’s not easily controlled anymore.” 

No one could deny that! 

Sonia had experienced the pain of losing her husband, and her son severed ties with the family over a woman he met at a club. 

When news of her only grandson’s accident reached her, she aged a decade overnight. 

“Fine. Take the child to the hospital. I might have wronged her if she genuinely wanted to resolve the misunderstanding between Anderson 

and Isabel.” 

Caroline smiled. “I knew it. Madam Sonia, you’re strict on the outside but soft–hearted on the inside. After all, she’s just a child. How could you really bear to send her away?” 

“It’s not about that. It’s because her parents saved Anderson’s life. Let 

her stay at the Barlow Estate for a while

Mayra lay there with her eyes closed, feeling the excruciating pain in her stomach. It was as if her insides were being twisted and crushed. 

At that moment, she felt a pair of hands gently wiping the cold sweat off her forehead. This feeling was so familiar. 

“Mom… why did you leave me… I don’t want to be an orphan…”

In the blink of an eye, the baby in the middle–aged man’s arms was already three years old and learning to speak. Every day, she would stand by the door, listening for the sound of footsteps passing by. 

When the door opened, the middle–aged man would be home from driving his cab. Holding a cake in his hand, he would happily pick up his little daughter who was waiting for him with his free hand.
