Frightened, Margaret stopped talking at once. Edric slammed down his fist on the table a couple more times. At the sight of this, Margaret's heart ached and she quickly went to his side to stop him. "Edric, don't do this!"

Edric looked at Margaret with bloodshot eyes. "Mom, if you really care about me, please return to Haverland immediately. With Eden's condition now, I don't want you to disturb them. Irene and I will find a way to cure him!"

"How do you plan on doing so? Leukemia is no flu or fever. How can I not worry?" asked Margaret, unwilling to leave.

"I've already found a way. We could get him a bone marrow transplant. Irene is pregnant. When the child is born, we could transplant parts of his bone marrow to Eden."

"Irene is pregnant again? Is it yours?" Margaret squealed, aghast. She was already surprised to find out about Eden; yet now, she was about to have another grandchild again. She didn't know how to react to this shocking news.

"Yes, it's mine. Now go back home. You'll only cause more trouble if you remain here." Edric softened his tone, trying to get Margaret to leave.

"I won't! My grandson is sick; how can I abandon him? I can't leave. I'll stay here to look after him," Margaret insisted. Noticing that Edric was staring at her, she quickly added, "I promise I won't be a nuisance. Don't worry, I won't bother Irene!"

Edric let out a long sigh. What was he supposed to do? Margaret wasn't an evil person; she had a heart of gold as well. But she had a short temper and would often lash out at others with her mean words. With such a temper, it was bound to be difficult for her and Irene to get along with each other.

Deborah accompanied Lily in the hospital until dawn before leaving. When she walked to the parking lot, she was dumbfounded. Her car window had been smashed and her handbag was gone. Breathless with anger, Deborah immediately went looking for a security guard.

The security guard examined the CCTV footage and saw that the break-in was carried out by a man wearing a military jacket. The director of the hospital was also in pure disbelief. Deborah was Steven's wife and her car had been broken into at his hospital. Standing by and doing nothing was out of the question. He stepped forward and personally offered to bring her car to the workshop to be repaired. He also offered to pay for the damages inflicted.

At first, Deborah was distraught, but later on, she realized that she should try not to make a big fuss over this. Up till now, Steven had no idea that she and Lily had visited the hospital for the operation. They'd lied to him and instead claimed that they were going on vacation. If he were to find out the truth, they would be in deep trouble.

Deborah eventually recaptured her composure and accepted the compensation offered, asking the hospital director to keep this matter under wraps. Both Deborah and Lily were devastated, as their car was now out of commission. They had no choice but to take a cab to a hotel and stay there for two days before returning home.

After recuperating in the intensive care unit for two days, Rowane finally regained her consciousness. The nurse called Nathan over excitedly as soon as she woke up.

Nathan rushed to the hospital. A Haverland doctor was already attending to Rowane. "Are you alright? If you can hear me, please blink once." Rowane blinked her eyes once.

"Do you have difficulty breathing? If not, please blink once." She blinked again.

"She appears to have fully recovered, don't you think?" whispered the nurse next to him.

"Nurse, please help the patient take off her oxygen mask," the doctor ordered the nurse.

"Who are you? What am I doing here?" These were the first words that tumbled out of Rowane's mouth. Although her voice was soft, it was clear.

"We are doctors, and you're in a hospital. You were hit by a car, and you are receiving treatment right now," explained the doctor.

"I was hit by a... car? Why... why can't I remember anything?" stammered Rowane.

"Look, this was the man who brought you here." The doctor gestured to Nathan next to him.

"Did you bring me here?" Rowane shifted her focus to Nathan, who nodded. "Then you must know me! Can you tell me who I am?" She looked at Nathan expectantly.

"Wait a minute, what's going on?" Nathan thought. He was stunned. She didn't know who she was?! How could she forget her own identity? How could something like this happen in this day and age?

"Calm down." The doctor said soothingly, "Try to recall it slowly. Perhaps you'll remember soon."

"I can't think of anything, and my head hurts. Not just my head, but my whole body hurts!"

"That's because you're injured. Take plenty of rest. You'll recover your memories soon enough." The doctor quietly tugged at Nathan's shirt and gestured him to the door. Nathan followed the doctor out, his suspicion growing.

"Is there something wrong about her?" Nathan asked urgently as he followed the doctor back to the office.

"She is no longer in danger, but it'll take some time for her to recover," answered the doctor truthfully.

"Why can't she remember who she is? Could it be that her brain is damaged?" Nathan hypothesized.

"Pretty much! Judging from her injuries, I expect she's suffering from amnesia." The doctor invited Nathan to take a seat.

"Amnesia?" parroted Nathan.

"Yes, as a result of her severe injuries, her brain has likely been damaged. In humans, memories are stored in the cerebral cortex. Hence, any brain injury can potentially cause people to lose their memories. Usually, less serious injuries will only cause temporary memory loss, but the severe ones may lead to permanent memory loss," the doctor clarified.

"So which group does she belong to?" Nathan asked, this time his voice as soft as a whisper.

Joanne whispered a few words into Margaret's ear. Margaret's expression changed suddenly. "No! I can't do that! My grandson is sick. This will affect him."

"Mrs. Myers, when did you become so timid? I'm not suggesting that you harm him, but just helping you get a load off your mind." Joanne looked at Margaret with withering sarcasm. "Just hire a few doctors on standby. Then you'll have nothing to fear, right?"

Margaret was still hesitant.

"This is Plan B. Try talking to Irene first. If she knows what's good for her, then you won't have to go through with that plan. If not, then only will we put Plan B into action."

Seeing Margaret's face written with reluctance, Joanne chuckled coldly and said, "Think about it carefully. Once Irene marries my brother, you will no longer have any say over the child. This is Mencodia. In a situation like this, they would never separate the children from their mother."

Margaret considered Joanne's options before saying, "Alright, I'll try talking to Irene first."

So, Margaret met up with Irene. Upon seeing Margaret, Irene looked at the latter coldly. "What's the matter?"

"I went looking for you because I'm going to tell you something." Margaret's tone was as arrogant as usual. "I've discussed it with Edric. We will not take away your guardianship rights over Eden, under one condition."

"What's the condition, then?" Irene simpered.

"The condition is that you can't marry Nathan," Margaret finished off.

"Mrs. Myers, what right do you have to say this to me?!" Irene smirked haughtily. She was wondering why Edric had been so calm. It turned out that he had this under his sleeve all along. "I've already told you, I gave birth to Eden after I divorced Edric. His upbringing has nothing to do with the Myers family. You guys have no right to ask me to do this!"

"It's not that we don't want to take responsibility, but you won't let us. Irene, if I knew you were pregnant back then, I wouldn't have forced Edric to divorce you..."

Irene interjected, "It's useless to say these things now, Mrs. Myers. Have some dignity. As I've said before, if you want a grandson, just get someone to have one with Edric. You don't need Eden. But for me, Eden is all I have; I won't let anyone take him away from me."

"If Edric is willing to give birth to a grandson with someone else, would I be coming to you?" Margaret thought to herself. If Edric was going to listen to her, she would already have a grandson on her lap right now. She wouldn't be living this lonely life.

However, under no circumstances would she let Irene know about it. If Irene knew that all Edric wanted was to have her back, then it would make matters worse. Irene would become even more unreasonable to talk to. "I didn't come here to negotiate with you, Irene. I am informing you that if you are really marrying Nathan, Edric and I will not just sit idly by. We will remove your guardianship rights over Eden. Neither I nor Edric will accept a Myers calling some other man his father!"

"We shall see about that!" Irene stood up. She hated being threatened. Edric and Magaret could dream on if they thought their threats would work on her!
