Seeing how Margaret had closed herself off to any room for discussion, Edric slammed the door and left. Furious, Margaret panted, "You ungrateful brat, just you wait. I'll surely sue Irene! I must let you know I am your mother and I am someone whom you two can trifle with."

Margaret confirmed with the lawyer that she wished to sue Irene. Soon, Irene received a letter from the lawyer. Jordan immediately hired a lawyer for her upon learning that. Margaret requested the lawyer to hand over the surveillance video to the court. The judge gathered that although Irene didn't mean to hurt Margaret, she had indeed caused serious injury to Margaret. Hence, the judge concluded that Irene should pay monetary compensation to Margaret and go for detention.

However, the judge still recommended letting them reach a consensus in private. Edric went to Margaret again. "Mom, Irene is pregnant. Even if you do not have the slightest care for her, please at least think about that unborn baby in her tummy."

Only then Margaret remembered that very fact. Irene was pregnant now, i.e. another grandson of hers was in her belly. Margaret had never wanted Irene to go to jail to begin with; she just wanted to teach her a lesson. At Edric's words, Margaret decided to find a justification for her own action. "I can let her go if you tell her to come to the hospital to kneel down and apologize to me!"

"Aren't you just being ridiculous?" Edric smiled bitterly. How could Irene kneel down and apologize to Margaret? It was impossible for him to even picture it.

"I don't care. I'm badly injured. What's wrong with me asking her to kneel and apologize? This is what she owes me. I will never give in this time. Either she apologizes to me or goes behind bars; tell her to choose one!" Margaret snarled.

Seeing that Margaret refused to compromise, Edric left the hospital with a grave frown. Margaret assumed that she had caught Irene's soft spot and could finally use that to force Irene to admit her mistake. However, she didn't expect that the result was quite different from what she had imagined.

Irene would rather bear criminal responsibility than apologize to Margaret. D*mn that Irene! How could she be so stubborn?! Margaret only wanted Irene's apology, not asking for her life!

Margaret muttered silently, "Do I really have to send Irene to jail? My grandchild is in her belly. If they learn that I forced Irene to go to jail knowing that she is pregnant, they would definitely hate me."

However, there was no turning back. If Margaret were to go back on her word, she must think of a way that would not embarrass herself. Edric never showed up again, and she couldn't possibly call Edric and tell him her thoughts.

Just as Margaret was caught in her own apprehension, the lawyer she had hired came to the hospital. He told Margaret that Irene's lawyer had applied for the abolishment of detention for Irene, which meant that Irene didn't need to go to jail since she was pregnant.

Although Margaret didn't want Irene to go to jail, that result was still unbearably humiliating to Margaret. Her feathers were so wildly ruffled that she smashed almost everything in the ward.

Then she vented all her anger on Loraine again. Although Loraine looked docile on the outside, inwardly she was lambasting Margaret the whole time.

After a while, Margaret went to discuss a counterattack with Marie. Marie didn't expect that this matter would end so easily. Margaret was definitely irate and irked as things did not go as per her plan. All of a sudden, she thought of kidnapping Eden again.

Although Marie was not interested in Eden at all, she couldn't possibly tell Margaret that. After all, even a fool could tell that Margaret was determined to win over Eden. Suddenly, an idea dawned on Marie. Irene would definitely cling to Eden, and that meant that she would definitely run to Steven for help. With Steven's aid and Edric's lack of enthusiasm to fight for Eden's custody, Margaret would definitely plan to fail.

Of course, deep down Marie didn't want Margaret to take Eden back to the Myers family, too. Lily was in good condition after the operation. She could get married to Edric and give birth to two grandsons for Margaret immediately.

After all, Lily would surely feel uncomfortable seeing Irene's child in front of her. Marie had to take precautions against that matter first. Irene must win the case no matter what. As long as Irene took Eden away and left San Fetillo for the rest of her life, the marriage of Lily and Edric would surely go on smoothly.

Marie suddenly had an idea. She planned to go to Steven and tell him about the truth, prompting him to make a choice.

Needless to say, Steven knew that Irene had left San Fetillo previously. It was no secret that Edric followed her to Mencodia thereafter. Marie guessed that Steven did not get himself involved, for he assumed that Edric and Irene were merely having a lover's spat.

It was not until Margaret sued Irene that he learned about all those details. When he heard that Eden was Edric's son, Steven just couldn't believe it. With that knowledge, he hated Margaret even more.

The reason why Margaret forced Irene to divorce Edric back then was that she judged that Irene couldn't give birth to children. Hence, since she now had learned that Eden was her grandson, she should accept Irene with a smile instead of continuing pulling an attitude with Irene, right?

Since Margaret was hell-bent on suing Irene, Steven decided that enough was enough. He immediately met with the judge and told him about that matter. The judge recommended to either let both parties make peace privately or that Steven should bail her out.

Then, Steven called Edric and requested him to persuade Margaret to settle this matter outside the court. Edric let out a sigh while stating that he had already looked for Margaret and that she wouldn't listen to him at all. Margaret insisted on making Irene kneel down and admitting her mistake. He was thinking of other ways right then...

Steven was furious to hear that. What a hateful woman Margaret was! How dared she ask Irene to get down on her knees? What arrogance! He hung up the phone angrily.

Irene was his daughter. Steven could not forgive Margaret since she acted so arrogantly despite knowing that fact. She was digging her own grave! Even a fool knew that ordinary people shouldn't fight with him. He was a politician after all!

Steven wanted Margaret to understand that his position was not for nothing. He immediately called the judge and asked him to find a way to let him bail Irene out. The judge naturally would not refuse Steven's request; he immediately helped to bail Irene out.

Irene was fine in the end. Just as Steven was about to see Irene and Eden, Marie called him, saying that she had something to fill him in.

Therefore, Steven went to meet Marie first. He asked, "What do you want to talk about?"

"In addition to this, I also want to tell you that Margaret is dead set on competing with Irene for Eden's custody. You have to think of a way to help Irene," Marie added.

"Isn't Margaret your good friend? Aren't you betraying your friend by doing this?" Steven didn't believe that Marie would be so kind.

"Why are you doubting me when I'm telling you this out of kindness?" Marie was offended. "Irene is my niece no matter what. I just can't watch Margaret take Eden away."

"Thank you then!" Steven flashed a fake smile. "I will look into this. As long as I am here, no one can take my grandson away from my daughter!"

Marie was relieved to hear that. Since she had fulfilled her goal, she got up and left the cafe.

Marie walked out of the place and bumped into a waiter who was holding a cup of tea. The waiter spilled the tea all over her. Marie's clothes were soaked with the hot tea, and it scalded her. She then slapped the waiter in the face and hissed, "Did you leave your eyeballs at home?"

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" the waiter apologized repeatedly. The commotion attracted the attention of other customers. Seeing that everyone was looking over, Marie chose not to argue with the waiter further and left the tea house in a hurry, since Steven was still in the private room they met a while ago.

After a few minutes, Steven followed suit and left the cafe.

"Hey, isn't that Mr. Cook?" A colleague who was having tea with Kinsey pointed at Steven who was leaving.

Kinsey turned around to have a look. "Yeah."

"Why do you think he's here?" her colleague asked.

"Mr. Cook is also a human; he has a life too. Him coming here to drink tea ain't that big of a deal," Kinsey responded.

"No, I think there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. The fierce woman who slapped the waiter just now also came out from the same room."

Kinsey had also witnessed the scene of Marie slapping the waiter just then, but she did not pay much attention to it. Nonetheless, now that her colleague had brought it up, Kinsey was slightly stunned too. Why did Marie meet with Steven?
