The only way that Deborah could think of in order to shut Freya up was to not let Freya go out. She had issues dealing with Kinsey, but managing Freya would not be too much of a hassle. She called Logan to settle the matter immediately.

Logan called his men to break Freya's legs. Edric knew instantly when Freya was admitted into the hospital. Although Freya did not have a good character, there was no need to hurt her to the brink of death. Naturally, Edric thought that it was Lily and her mother's doing. It seemed that this mother-daughter duo was not alone and had gotten help from someone else. So, the plan now was to identify who had helped them.

Edric ordered John to investigate this matter carefully. His task was to find out who was the accomplice working with Deborah and her daughter.

Deborah grew up in the Cat Alley and was friends with the Cat Alley gangsters. It was rather likely that this gang was also from the Cat Alley.

John began to scrutinize gangsters around the Cat Alley and investigated those that were particularly on good terms with Deborah. This discovery had an unexpected gain. He had stumbled upon Bert, who was the one who had laid his hands on Irene during the match-making television program.

Bert had committed plenty of crimes previously, and he was wanted by the police. He had stayed hidden for a long time, like a stray dog without a peaceful home. Dunn, who had initially hired him to do some work, had already gone abroad. He had spent most of his money and had no choice but to hide in a dangerous place. So, he sneaked back to Cat Alley and decided to hide for some time while finding a solution.

Although Bert did not know who the real mastermind behind the scenes was, Edric guessed that the person was Deborah. He despised Deborah and her daughter to the very core of his heart. He had to make them pay for what they had done.

Amanda told her that she saw Edric being friendly with a girl named Thea Luther recently and asked her about that girl's background.

However, her daughter, who was hopeful at first, ended up feeling disappointed due to Thea's sudden appearance beside Edric. Hence, she shared this issue with her mother and said that Lily's former friend used to be best friends with Thea.

Her daughter suspected that Thea deliberately bribed Freya to spread the rumors about Lily.

Amanda was overjoyed to hear this. Margaret hated people who played tricks and games. So, it would be beneficial for her to tell Margaret about this news to get rid of Thea.

Margaret was infuriated upon hearing this. Her intuition told her that her son had purposely tarnished Lily's name so that she would despise Lily and then he would use the opportunity to be with Irene. Therefore, that evening, Margaret went into the study room to question Edric regarding the matter.

Edric did not plan on telling Margaret about his plans at first. However, when Margaret confronted him, his anger rose. He threw the recording pen that held the recording of Freya's confessions about Lily to Margaret.

Edric sneered and explained that someone had taken their revenge on Freya by breaking her legs after telling the truth. He also told Margaret that before Deborah was married to Steven, she used to hang out with the gangsters in the Cat Alley. She wasn't a good person at all.

Margaret was shocked upon hearing the recording. She knew very well that the person talking was someone that had been waiting for a chance to take their revenge. If what Freya said was false, then Deborah and her daughter could have protected themselves via the law instead of engaging with gangsters.

This meant that Freya must have been telling the truth. Both Deborah and her daughter were not only vicious but also ruthless. Margaret finally felt strong hatred towards Lily.

"Speaking about the children, I have a question to ask you, Mrs. Myers. Isn't Lily pregnant with Edric's child too? Why are you not taking into account her child?" Irene asked. Margaret was taken aback by the sudden question, so Irene became wary.

Margaret flustered and replied with hesitation, "I didn't know how she was really like before, but I know my mistake now… I will never let Lily step foot into the Myers family anymore."

Listening to what Margaret's words, Irene still could not guess what Margaret's actual plans were. "Mrs. Myers, I understand your goodwill. Me remarrying with Edric will be up to fate, so rest assured that I will bring Eden to meet you guys when the child has recovered. Don't worry about not being able to meet the child."

Upon hearing Irene's words, Margaret started to reflect on her actions and thought that she had truly been too narrow-minded. She apologized to Irene again, "I know what I did last time was wrong. Please forgive me and get back together with Edric. I'm begging you to!"

Irene felt uncomfortable with Margaret using the word 'beg' because at the end of the day, Margaret was still much older than she was. Since she was willing to apologize sincerely, then Irene would forgive her. "Mrs. Myers, your words are overly serious. I've offended you in many ways in the past. I apologize for hurting you too last time," Irene said.

Margaret could sense the politeness in Irene's tone and knew that her actions in the past had made Irene deeply wary of her. It would take more than just a day or two to fully break down Irene's walls that had been built in the past, and Margaret understood her. So, she had a short chat with Irene before bidding her farewell.

Not long after returning home, Edric came back. When he entered the door, he asked her with a gloomy face, "Mom, why did you meet Irene? Can't you calm down? You'd save me a lot of trouble that way."

If her son had questioned her like this in the past, Margaret would have become furious. However, today, she was in a good temper and asked her son to sit down, "Why don't you ask me the reason I went to meet her?"

"Do I still need to guess why you went to meet her? You must have tried to persuade Irene to return the children and get her to stay away from me," Edric said in frustration.

"Did Irene tell you that?"

"No, I guessed."

"You've guessed wrong. I went to Irene today to beg for her forgiveness," Edric stared at Margaret with wide eyes. He could not believe that his mother would say such a thing at all.
