Valerie hadn’t walked far when she spotted a familiar car parked just up ahead.

Phillip, the driver, waved at her. Valerie finally felt the tension ease as she walked over. After getting in the car, Valerie asked curiously, “Phillip, what brings you here?”

Phillip said, “I went to the apartment you share with Ms. Petty. She told me you were here, so I came to pick you up. It’s Friday–don’t tell me you forgot tomorrow’s the weekend?”

Valerie had truly forgotten and only just realized it. She grabbed her phone and asked, “Are we heading back to the Walker Manor now?”

“Yeah, there are guests at the Walker Manor, so Aiden sent me to bring you back,” said Phillip.

“Guests?” Valerie looked up. “Who is it?”

Phillip said, “Looks like your parents.”

At those words, Valerie felt her heart plummet. ‘What are they

As expected, when Valerie arrived at the Walker Manor, she saw Everett and his wife sitting on the living room sofa, laughing and chatting amiably with the Walker family.

Not far from them sat a girl who appeared to be about Valerie’s age. It was Valentina.

As Valerie stepped inside, Everett immediately put on the look of a loving father, rose to greet her with a warm smile, and said, “Valerie, you’re back.”

“Dad, what brings you here?” Valerie asked with a forced smile.

Then, Valerie went around greeting everyone with a polite smile.

‘Why are there so many people here?‘ Valerie wondered uneasily. ‘Something bad is about to happen.‘

Wesley sat on the sofa, beaming as he nodded. “So this is Aiden’s wife, huh? She’s really beautiful. Funny though, she doesn’t look anything like her dad,

“Exactly,” Rebecca chimed in with a laugh, turning to Valentina. “By the way, what was your name again?”

As children, Valentina and Valerie bore some resemblance, but as they grew older, the differences between them became more and more obvious.

Valerie blossomed into beauty with increasingly delicate features, while Valentina grew to resemble Everett more and more.

“Now, now,” Wesley said with mild reproach, “adopted or biological, they’re both Clark children, right, Mr. Clark?”

“Of course,” Everett chuckled heartily. “Both my daughters are my pride and joy.”

“That’s true,” Rebecca said with a warm smile, linking arms with Valerie. “But when Mr. Walker arranged this engagement, it was out of his deep affection for the Clark family.

“If just any random person could take that place, what would that say about his sincere devotion to your family? Don’t you agree, Valerie?”

Valerie felt her heart race. Forcing a smile at Rebecca, she replied, “Yes, as children, we just have to follow our elders‘ arrangements. Who we marry, well, that’s never really our choice, is it?”

As she spoke, Valerie looked toward Everett and flashed him a saccharine smile.

Everett’s heart sank slightly. ‘Since when did Valerie get so sly?‘ he thought, a hint of annoyance flickering in his heart.

“Valerie, are you saying Aiden doesn’t treat you well?” Valentina asked, looking completely harmless and just a bit envious. “At the birthday party last time, I saw how devoted he was to you.”

“Of course. I’m his wife. Who else would he dote on if not me?” Valerie replied with a sweet smile. She picked up the cup the maid had just handed her and took a delicate sip, masking the flicker of annoyance in her eyes.

‘What on earth are they here for?‘ Valerie wondered anxiously. ‘Are they trying to expose this? But what’s in it for them if they expose the truth?”

‘This would benefit Wesley and the others, but how did they even find out? And how did he manage to get that coward Everett to come here and lay all the cards on the table?‘ Valerie wondered.

Valerie was stewing in frustration when she suddenly looked up and caught sight of a tall, striking figure.
