Chapter 149
Aiden looked at Valerie curled up in bed, and she instinctively shrank further under the covers, quietly burying her face in the blanket
The doctor soon left, and Aiden walked over to Valerie’s bedside, reaching out to press gently on her head.
Valerie had already buried her face deep into the blanket. When she felt his touch, a strange sense of guilt welled up in her
Then, she heard him say, “You don’t want kids?”
Valerie’s heart thudded rapidly. She carefully pulled down the corner of the blanket and peeked at him:
Aiden’s face looked calm. He sat on the edge of the bed, watching her closely.
Valerie felt oddly timid under his gaze. She was about to retreat again, but he had already pulled away the blanket.
She tried to tug it back, but Aiden had pressed it down with one hand. Valerie didn’t have much strength to begin with, and under his hold, she couldn’t move it at all.
Aiden reached out and touched her cheek with a hint of distaste. He said, “You’re all sweaty.”
He yanked the blanket off her and rather roughly pulled two tissues to wipe the sweat from her face.
Valerie’s scalp tingled from the pressure of his wiping. She blocked his hand, her voice soft and delicate as she complained, “That hurts.”
Her skin was too delicate–just a few swipes from Aiden and her cheeks were already flushed pink.
Aiden paused, his gaze darkening slightly as he stared at the redness he had caused.
Feeling even more guilty, Valerie looked up at him and said quietly, “Don’t be mad…”
Aiden tossed the tissues aside and stared at her. “Why shouldn’t I be mad?”
Hearing that, Valerie’s guilt deepened even more.
Aiden’s gaze grew heavier as he asked, “Have you been taking the pills this whole time?”
Valerie looked away and replied, “Only during the risky days.”
He pressed, “Risky days?”
“During ovulation,” she answered softly.
“Just because you don’t want kids?” His voice was low and quiet, completely devoid of emotion.
Valerie’s heart raced as she thought to herself, ‘Yes.
‘I don’t want kids.
‘I’m still in school. If I have a child now, what about the future?
‘Besides, it’s not just that I can’t have children right now–I especially can’t have his child.
‘What if we get divorced in the future? Who would get custody? If I tried to fight him for the child, how could I possibly win?
‘So I might as well not have one at all. That way, there won’t be any messy fights later.’
While these thoughts ran through her mind, she mumbled aloud, “Not… not exactly… Do you want a child?”

Chapter 149
The moment she asked that question, Valerie’s heart raced wildly,
She stared at him, afraid to miss the slightest shift in his expression.
Sensing her nervousness, Aiden reached out and pinched her nose.
Caught off guard, Valerie winced in pain, tears nearly welling up in her eyes.
Aiden seemed a little annoyed, but his emotions were always restrained. Valerie couldn’t tell if he was angry or simply lost in thought. She could only cover her nose and look at him with a pitiful expression.
Meeting her cautious gaze, Aiden looked both exasperated and slightly irritated. His voice was cold as he said, “If you don’t want to, then don’t. I didn’t marry you just to have kids.”
Valerie’s heart trembled as a strange rush ofion bloomed inside her.
She repeated his words in her head: ‘If you don’t want to, then don’t.
‘I didn’t marry you just to have kids.‘
It was such a calm statement, yet it exploded like
fireworks in her chest, flooding her with dazzling emotion.
Her gaze trembled, and her heart fluttered uncontrollably.
Aiden leaned down slightly, brushing his fingers through her soft hair as he locked eyes with her. “I’m your husband. Next time you want or don’t want something, just tell me, okay?”
Valerie’s heart raced even more. She looked at him in disbelief, blinking slowly.
Aiden had always been helpless against that innocent, obedient look in her eyes. He couldn’t resist leaning down and lightly biting her lip as he said, “No more birth control pills.”
Instinctively, Valerie clamped her mouth shut and nodded obediently.
Watching her, Aiden lowered his head and kissed her lips again, whispering, “When you’re ready, we’ll have one.”
At his words, Valerie’s face turned hot. She quickly looked away, her thoughts a complete mess. ‘Does he really want to have a child with me?
‘I don’t think I’ll ever be ready. There are just too many what–ifs between us. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll end up getting divorced…”
While Valerie’s mind ran wild, Aiden gently brushed aside the loose strands on her forehead and said, “Sleep. I’ll take you home.”
“But I have class tomorrow!” Valerie protested.
“You can go when you’re better,” Aiden said firmly as he pressed her back down. “There are maids at home. You can go back to class once you’ve recovered. Be good.”
Valerie wanted to argue, but seeing the look in his eyes that brooked no refusal, she shut her mouth obediently.
She thought, ‘Fine.
‘It’s Friday tomorrow anyway.‘
After her IV finished, Aiden took Valerie back to their marital home.
Valerie felt like she hadn’t been back in ages. Everything in the house was exactly as she remembered. Camille greeted them the moment they arrived, handing her a cup of lemon and ginger juice and thoughtfully preparing a heat pad for her.
