“I thought you dealt with most of it?”

“But a huge part of designers left, which means the company lost its backbone,” J said with a concerned look.

“If they don’t want to stay, forcing them to do so will only produce the opposite effect, so might as well set them free.”

“We still have Lyla with us right?”

“Wouldn’t it be a little too much to Ms. Lowe?” J was extremely concerned because it was not something easy.

J stopped delving on that particular topic and switched to another. “So are we going to let this situation continue?”

Mark leaned back on his chair, looking all prepared and determined. His serious look really made his handsomeness unrivaled.

“Have you ever heard of a saying, ‘fight back when you are at your most desperate moment’?”

J nodded. “I get it now.”

“Go do your thing, report to me if there’s any news.”

J nodded again and left the office.

In the afternoon, Lyla came to Mark’s office.

“I suppose you knew what happened, right?”

Mark held her hand. “Yes, I do.”

“You won’t blame me right?” Lyla asked.

“What do you think?” Mark smiled.

“There are not many who are willing to stick to their position, if you manage to make me leave from your scolding, there will be no one working anymore!” Lyla ridiculed.

Mark bolted up all of a sudden and hugged her into his arms. “Are you threatening me?”

“What if I am?”

“You know, threatening your superior may result in severe punishment.”

“Such as...?”

Mark whispered into her ears and she giggled. She looked away with a red face and said, “You jerk.”

“It seems like I must hold the title tightly, otherwise I might feel wronged.”

Lyla quickly stopped Mark before he could do anything naughty. “Okay, okay, that’s enough. How do you even have the mood to fool around in times like this?”

“As long as you are with me, I’ll have the mood to do anything.”

Lyla rolled her eyes at him, signaling him to be a little more serious. “So what are you going to do?”

Mark failed to get the ‘grape’, so he fell back on his chair with a slightly disappointed look and sighed.

He said, “You did great. If they don’t want to stay, it would be useless keeping them as well. It’s great actually, we actually kicked out a lot of useless ones.”

“That’s it?”

Mark looked at Lyla. “Don’t worry, it’s more than just that.”

“It seems like you have a plan.”

“Everything is according to plan.”

“Okay then, I’ll wait for your good news,” Lyla said with a smile.

Mark showed a soft grin in silence.

M.K. had fallen to a new low and the shareholders of the company got restless. They went to the company to confront Mark but he told his men to stop the shareholders outside, denying their meeting.

The shareholders were furious but unable to do anything.

Two days later.

“Mr. Pattinson!” J shouted.

“What’s wrong?”

“Executive Emmerson from the board of directors wants you to be at the shareholder meeting, otherwise he will contact the others to dismiss you as CEO.”

Mark really wanted to laugh out loud when he heard the news.

“Really?”

“It’s happening as we speak.”

“Where is he now?”

“The meeting room.”

Mark got up. “It seems like today’s show will be interesting.”

He slightly tidied his coat before he walked to the meeting room.

J followed quietly behind him, he did not look concerned at all. He was looking forward to finding out what would happen.

The moment Mark stepped in, everyone from the board of directors was already present.

Arden had a quick glance at Mark before he sat down with the least courtesy.

“Okay then, the meeting shall resume,” Mark said. His nonchalance felt like he did not take Arden’s participation seriously, as if the man was here just to have a meal. He did not show concerns at all.

The more nonchalant Mark was, the less confident Arden was. He sat down with heavy thoughts as he looked at Mark.

“Arden said his company could act as our company’s guarantor and we can revive M.K. to its former glory!” Executive Emmerson said.

Mark grinned when he heard it. “Really? Is Mr. Pattinson that generous? You must know a slight misstep and it will drag even your company down.”

Arden smiled as a reply.

The two of them were actually testing each other secretly.

“Of course, only my company is not enough, we still need your help, Mr. Pattinson.”

“Oh? What kind of help can I provide?”

“If the company changes the head of command I believe M.K.’s clients will revert their trust back to the company. Otherwise, I strongly believe M.K. will plunge deeper into this endless abyss.”

“Hahahahaha!” Mark burst out in laughter after hearing Arden’s words.

“Are you saying that you want my position?”

“It may be the best outcome for you and M.K., otherwise the company will maintain at its worst until it bankrupts.” Arden might not be loud but his words were strongly spoken.

Mark was not anxious or angry at all, he looked at Arden as if he was greatly relieved. “Arden Pattinson, you’ve finally shown your true self.”

“What you say now doesn’t matter anymore. I have more than 20% of shares of M.K., I have the right to elect myself as a CEO candidate. Mr. Pattinson, your objection is useless now.”

“I’m not objecting, but I don’t know about them,” Mark said before he looked at the other shareholders.

The meeting room fell into silence.

Mark and Arden were waiting for the other shareholders to voice their opinions.

A few of them stood up eventually.

“I believe the sudden change of command of our company will lead to suspicion from the masses. Besides, things aren’t at their worst at the moment, we can’t jump to conclusions so fast.”

The members who voiced up had always been Mark’s allies. They might be twice as old as Mark but they agreed with his point of view.

After that, a few more members stood up to show their support for Mark.

Mark knew who they were because he had been CEO for so many years, he could tell the vermins apart; who tried to poison the company.

All he wanted to see was who would stay and when he saw the number of board members who supported him, he felt slightly relieved because it was more than what he expected.

Mark smiled instead of being angry. “Looks like the majority of the board members agreed to change the head of command.”

The majority of the board members chose to answer with their silence.

Mark grinned. “Okay then, it seems like I have to go but before I do, I want everyone to take a look at a document.”

J then handed a document file to Mark.

Mark tossed the document on the table and said, “You guys have a look at it and decide whether or not you want him as M.K.’s CEO.”
