“Boss, Mark has destroyed many of our territories again. Our losses will only snowball at this rate,” Shadow reported.
Hearing this, Felix clasped his hands tightly.
“I guess Mark is not going to back off,” He uttered with a menacing look on his face.
Shadow was silent but trusted that Felix had his own plans.
“Get ready. I leave tomorrow,” Felix coldly blurted.
Nodding, Shadow was struck by a thought. “What about... Ms. Lowe?”
Speaking of this, Felix was reluctant. It took a while before he spoke, “She’ll remain here for now. I will rush back once I’ve dealt with everything.”
“Got it.” Shadow bobbed his head.
“Also, you’re in charge while I’m not around. I’ll hold you accountable if anything happens to her.”
Shadow put on a stern countenance. “Understood.”
…...
Back in the room, Lyla was looking out the window.
Her longing was growing mad. She missed Mark, Hansel, and Gretel.
She really missed them.
However, she had no way of getting in touch with them.
What should she do?
She had no idea.
The only thing she could do was remain steadfast against Felix in hopes that the latter would come to his senses and release her.
Just then, there was a creak at the door. She turned back and found Felix walking in through the opened door.
Lyla lowered her gaze at the sight of him. Her eyes were focused outside, pretending not to see him.
Felix frowned at the look on her face. He walked over and gave her a pull. “Do you really hate me so much that you won’t even look at me?”
Lyla furrowed her brows. Felix was rarely crude with his actions but after taking a whiff of the strong alcohol stench over him, she uttered, “You had too much to drink.”
“Yes, I’m drunk. I wouldn’t have the courage to see you otherwise,” Felix yelled.
Lyla turned to him. “Felix, stop it.”
“Do you know? It’s been a while since you took a glance at me or spoke to me,” Felix remarked.
Ever since that fateful day, he had been visiting her daily but she held her tongue. Sure, she finished her meals with no problems at all. However, she moved along life like one of the walking dead.
This hurt him more than for her to put her life on the line as a threat.
She looked at him. “You’re the cause of all this. How do you expect me to face you? Forget the past and live with you here? Do you think it’s even possible?”
“Why is it impossible? My love for you is no less than his. Why is it not possible?”
“Love is not one sided. It has to be reciprocated.”
“Then love me!”
“Felix...”
“I can give you anything he can!” His voice was hoarse. His breathing was all over the place from exerting a lot of force. Her faint bodily scent was a catalyst, triggering his already burning passion. Throwing all restraint out the window, he suddenly pushed her against a wall and held her face to press his lips against hers.
The abruptness was beyond expectation. Caught off guard, Lyla was left defenseless against the kiss.
By the time she snapped out of the trance, Felix’s tongue had already gained entry and began an invasion.
“Uh...”
Lyla pushed and smacked him while shying away in distress. Felix in such a state was fearsome.
Nevertheless, Felix let her push and hit him. Having wanted this kiss for so long, he could no longer keep himself under control anymore.
She was like an addictive drug. Once exposed, there was no letting go.
The kiss was getting intense but that was not the only thing he was after.
Pushing her down at the opportunity, his lips wandered about her body.
“Felix...”
Lyla was pinned down easily. She tried to push him away with all her might but the difference in strength between men and women proved to be evident. To him, the small amount of strength exerted by Lyla was just harmless flirting.
“Felix, get your head straight.”
“Lyla, don’t reject me...” He mumbled.
“No, Felix. Let me go!”
“I have been thinking about it for so long. I won’t let you go!” Felix was out of his mind under the influence of alcohol right there and then. He wanted her so, so much.
This thought had been in his head for many years.
“Don’t move, Lyla. Let me love you...”
“I will despise you forever if you carry on!”
“Be my woman. I’ll let you hate me forever.” His hands restlessly lingered on her underside.
Lyla was about to lose it.
He refused to listen no matter what she told him.
Smack.
A clear slap extinguished all his ardor.
Still in motion, Felix stared at her.
Lyla looked back at him, narrowing her clear eyes that burned with fury. “Felix Smith, I don’t want our relationship to change for the worse. You’ll only get a corpse in return if you force yourself on me.”
She said a corpse!
Not a body!
He wanted her even if it was just her body because he loved her to the core. Even if Felix could not have her, he was comforted if it was just her body.
Yet, she mentioned a corpse.
It was the only thing he was afraid of.
Gazing at her, he curled his lips in self-mockery.
Without a word, he got off bed and took off in a helter-skelter manner.
Lyla sat in bed as she watched his receding figure. She closed her eyes and felt the growing ache in her heart. She felt sorry for him.
Even if Felix did cross the line, Lyla could not cast away the years they spent together in her mind.
The sincere support he had given to them amassed through one helping-hand at a time.
She did not want their relationship to be torn apart beyond no return. She had this fantasy that Felix could snap out of it and find his own happiness...
“So I’m not going to intimidate you. I’ll let you talk,” Lyla remarked.
Was this not a threat?
Shadow broke out in cold sweat.
Nevertheless, he spoke up, “It’s in regards to Ghost Gate and Eastern Union.”
Lyla frowned at the mention. “Mark?”
Shadow gave a nod.
“What’s this about? Tell me!” Anxious, Lyla uttered.
Hence, Shadow relayed the whole ordeal to her.
It was as expected.
Lyla was lost for words after learning the whole story. She was filled with endless worry.
She knew Mark was not going to let up just like that and would have his mind set on finding her. However, this would mean that he would stir trouble with Felix as well.
What should she do?
Lyla was biting her nails.
She turned back and glanced at Shadow. “Things will get out of hand if this keeps up.”
Shadow was silent. He was aware of that.
After much thought, Lyla’s only possible course of action was to concentrate her efforts on Shadow.
“Shadow, I know you’re loyal to Felix but you should know that Felix has only just got better in health. Who knows what the consequences will be if he were to face Mark head on.”
Shadow was, of course, well aware of that as well.
However, there was nothing more he could do.
“I have a way to stop this war.”
Shadow lifted his eyes to fixate on Lyla. Even without putting it into words, Shadow knew what she was getting at.
“Take me away and I’ll go find them,” Lyla declared while keeping her eyes on him.
Shadow remained quiet. He was conscious that it was the best course of action. However, the consequences were dire if he were to do so.
Felix spared no effort in getting Lyla here. If he were to send her back...
Shadow shook his head. “I can’t.”
“Why?”
“This is where Boss draws the line. I probably won’t be able to be by his side if I really did that.”
“Are you going to sit back and watch as something happens to him?”
“We won’t know who will win or lose in the end!”
”You—”
“Ms. Lowe.” Shadow seemed to have something on his mind. “I don’t know what the misunderstanding is between you and Boss, but he is willing to do anything for you.”
With a frown, Lyla gazed at him.
“You’re no stranger to the last incident. It wouldn’t have progressed to this stage had the bullet missed his vital organs,” Shadow said.
“Wasn’t it all in your plan?” Lyla looked in the eye and asked.
