Three days later, Mick with Ted was ready to leave the hospital when he saw the announcement about Buck hosting a banquet.

“Mona, take Ted home first. I’ve got a work event to attend to.”

A waiter led him to the door of the private room, where he could hear laughter and chatter 

from inside.

“You’re going places–promotion, salary raise, you name it.” 

“I heard you’re studying traditional medicine now. You’re truly well–rounded.” 

These voices were all too familiar. They were the same people who used to say that Nadia was unworthy of attention. 

Because of these comments, he’d never taken Nadia to formal events. Even when they were
