Mick shouldn’t have said those things that hurt her. Dancing would be his way of apologizing. 

“Mick?” 

Mona had been speaking earnestly for a while but got no response. She felt something was off and turned her head to look. Only then did she realize that Mick seemed to be lost in thought. 

Her heart immediately went on high alert, sensing that things were slipping out of her control. But after replaying the situation in her mind, she couldn’t pinpoint where things had gone wrong. 

There were too many people around for her to ask Mick, so she decided to wait until they were inside the venue to figure out her next move. 

Just as she was thinking about what to say next, Ted came running over, excited. “Dad, Mom… 

But before he could finish, he quickly skidded to a stop. Where was Nadia? He looked up at Mick in confusion as though accusing him of not arriving with Mom. 

Mick, who had always been determined to win Nadia back, would never lower himself to ask her to come to school with him. Over the years, Nadia had done that countless times for him. 

“Let’s go inside first,” Mick said, breaking the awkwardness between the three of them. 

Mona smiled and reached out to take Ted’s hand, but he instinctively pulled away from her. 

Mona fell silent. What was going on? Why were Mick and Ted acting so strangely? 

“Let’s go,” Mick said, grabbing Ted’s hand and walking ahead. 

Mona had no choice but to grit her teeth and follow. 

Inside the venue, Nadia sat beside the cake table, holding Norman’s hand. The beautifully arranged snacks and cakes were available for guests to help themselves after the event started. 

Norman, who was usually strictly controlled at home when it came to food, was completely unable to resist the temptation of the small cakes. 

“Ms. Vega, can I really only have three?” he asked, his big eyes wide with longing. 

Nadia pinched his cheek. “That’s right. You promised me earlier. A real man keeps his word.” 

Norman stared at the little cakes longingly, licking his lips. “I’ll eat all I want when I grow up!” 

Nadia couldn’t help but laugh. Meanwhile, Mick and Ted had sat down nearby. Upon hearing the laughter, both father and son frowned.

Ted muttered, “Laughing so loudly in public, it’s really annoying.” 

But in reality, the sound hadn’t been loud enough to disturb anyone. It was just that without seeing Nadia, everything around him seemed wrong. 

However, when his eyes, full of distaste, landed on the source of the laughter, he froze in 

shock. 

“Ted, what’s wrong?” 

Mona, unsure of what had happened to cause such a shift in the father–son dynamic, felt confident that she could fix it. So, she kept a close eye on them and was quick to notice Ted’s change.
