Chapter 52 Fulfilling Your Duties as a Wife 

Caroline immediately regretted her earlier actions. Why couldn’t I just keep quiet? She knew David held grudges and loved seeking revenge. Now, her impulsive words had backfired on her. 

Seizing the moment when David wasn’t paying attention, she pried his hand away and turned to flee. But as soon as she spun around, she was greeted by Harper’s cheerful smile at the top of the stairs. 

Why hasn’t Mom left yet? 

“Go on, don’t waste time, Harper said, waving her hand encouragingly. 

“Mom, you’re still here…” 

“It’s fine, don’t mind me. I just want to watch the two of you for a little longer.” 

Caroline felt rooted to the spot, unable to escape. Harper’s eyes were filled with hope and tenderness, her demeanor radiating warmth. 

At that moment, Caroline felt utterly lost. How can I face her? She was hiding a secret–she was pregnant, and the child wasn’t David’s but Nash’s. She was bound to disappoint Harper. 

Before she could gather her thoughts, she felt herself being lifted. David had scooped her up effortlessly and was heading toward the master bedroom. Not wanting Harper to hear anything. Caroline didn’t dare to cry out. Instead, she beat her fists silently against his chest in protest. 

David paid her no mind. Kicking the door open, he walked in and threw her onto the bed. Pulling off his tie, he loomed over her, pinning her hands and feet with ease. 

Caroline couldn’t move at all. Looking up, she found David’s strikingly handsome face inches from hers. 

Their eyes locked, tension thick in the air. His breath brushed against her cheek as he said, “Can’t just sit still at home, huh? You just have to create trouble?” 

“What trouble did I make?” Caroline asked, baffled. “Mom came here on her own, and she made the soup. What was I supposed to do to stop her?” 

“You suggested I’m incapable. That was all you,” David shot back. 

Caroline’s gaze darted everywhere but at him. “I…I was wrong, she stammered. 

She had fabricated things, and she regretted it deeply. Better to apologize than let this–escalate. 

“Wrong?” David tightened his hold on her wrist. “Now you admit it? Too late!” 

With one sharp tug, he tore her clothes apart. The sound of ripping fabric echoed as her garments fluttered to the floor in tatters. 

Panicking, Caroline said, “David, stop! You promised you wouldn’t touch me!” 

Is he serious this time? She was barely a month pregnant, and the baby wasn’t stable. This couldn’t happen. Even if it could, she didn’t want this relationship to take such a turn. 

“When did I say that?” he asked coldly. “Do you have any proof?”

“I’ll touch you if I want. If I don’t, you’re free to leave,” he said, narrowing his eyes. “As my wife, your duty is to please me.” 

Under the faint light, her pale skin seemed to 

disheveled hair adding to her vulnerabilne. She shrank into herself, her helpless expression and

woman’s. 

Leaning down, David let his lips graze her skin, starting from her nose, trailing down her lips, along her neck, and toward her collarbone. 

“Please… no…” Caroline’s voice broke with sobs. She couldn’t stop him. 

As his heated lips pressed against her skin, she shut her eyes, tears rolling down her cheeks. 

Am I really going to lose myself to him tonight?
