Chapter 64 David, You’re Really Here! 

Was this just an illusion? Or was it actually happening? 

Caroline remembered old tales from her childhood about seeing the person you love most just before death. 

And now, David was the one I saw? Why would it be him? He had been so heartless, so cold, and so cruel. How could I possibly want to see him now? 

Perhaps it was because he was her husband, in name if not in heart–the one who should protect her, the one she could rely on. 

“David…” she whispered faintly, her voice trembling. “Please… save me… help me… 

Before she could finish, Jason let out a horrible scream. Blood began dripping from his head, splattering onto Caroline before his body collapsed to the ground with a thud. 

Sam froze in terror, spinning around. “Who… who are you?” he stuttered. 

A low, commanding voice, cold as ice, answered. “I’m her husband.” 

“David!” Sam cried out, but his words were cut short as a hand gripped his throat. 

In an instant, he was hurled several feet across the room, crashing into the wall before collapsing to the floor. Blood dripped from his mouth, and he lay there, limp and unmoving. 

Caroline stared in shock, unable to comprehend what had just happened. 

This wasn’t a dream–it was real. 

David had come for her at the last possible moment. 

“It’s you,” she murmured weakly, her voice breaking. “It’s really you.” 

“It’s me,” David said, his expression cold as he knelt down and expertly untied the ropes on her wrists. 

Her wrists, pale and delicate, were marred with deep red grooves where the ropes had been tied. The moment she was free, Caroline instinctively wanted to throw herself into David’s arms. 

She was young, shaken, and overwhelmed by fear. She desperately needed comfort, a safe space to cry out her terror and grief. 

And here he was–her husband, at least in name. 

But her rationality quickly caught up with her emotions. 

She stopped herself, hesitating, and then slowly stepped back, her eyes lingering on David’s broad chest. 

David’s brows furrowed deeply. 

His arms had been open, ready to embrace her, to comfort her. 

But she held herself back.

“I wasn’t prepared for this. They caught me off guard,” Caroline murmured, her voice low. 

David reached out, brushing the red marks on her cheeks. “Did they hit you?” 

“Yes,” she admitted softly. 

Her cheeks were swollen, marked with red handprints from the harsh slaps. 

She lowered her head. “I didn’t disappear on purpose. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to Mr. Boris’s meeting on time.” 

Even after everything, she was still worried about work 

David wanted to chastise her, to scold her for her recklessness, but the sight of her disheveled and vulnerable appearance silenced him. 

Noticing her torn clothing, he quietly shrugged off his suit jacket and placed it over her shoulders. 

Caroline shivered slightly as the coat draped over her. 

David glanced at the two men, his voice cold. “As for these two…” 

“Wait,” Caroline interjected. “They were just following orders.”
