CHAPTER TWELVE.

BRINLEY.

It's been three days since the King's party. And things were getting back to normal. I don't know what Thomas said to Kyle, but Kyle told me the day after the party I was no longer going to the Mortaga Kingdom.

He never said I could stay here, but I'm hoping Mrs. Bates changes his mind about that; after all, she helped me out with Gabriel. Unfortunately, I haven't got the chance to tell Thomas the good news. He hasn't come back to the pond since. No doubt he is probably beating himself up about what happened between us. I haven't told anyone, not Julia, not Katie. I figured this needed to stay between Thomas and myself.

Julia was assigned cleaning today while I had to work in the greenhouse. Not that I minded though I love it here, the smell of the plants and the beautiful roses always brightens my days.

I had to do laundry duty instead of kitchen duty tonight by the end of the day. I was exhausted. While I slipped on Julia's red bikini, getting ready for the pond as I always do. Julia was getting ready to meet Xander.

I stumbled back when this weird flash of heat came over my body. My stomach twisted in knots as I hit the floor on my knees, doubling over, clutching my stomach.

"Oh, my goddess. Brinley," Julia says, kneeling beside me. I couldn't speak. The pain was horrible.

"Brinley, I need to go get doctor Jacob," Julia says, her voice laced with concern.

I groaned and curled in a ball on the floor tears were falling freely down my face as another wave of heat came over me. I cried out in pain. Beads of sweat rolled from my forehead.

"508, I'm doctor Jacob. I'm going to examine you to see what's...' He paused mid-sentence.

"Dr. Jacob, what's wrong with her?" Julia asked him. I could hear them talking, but I could not communicate from the pain.

"She's in heat," Dr. Jacob says.

Heat? Oh no! Katie warned me this would happen. But I refused to listen, but she left out how much pain I would be in.

"Heat?" Julia repeats what the Dr said. "Yes. We need to get her to the cabin. There are a lot of unmated males here." Dr. Jacob says. "Get her some Ice to help break the fever. I'll let Mrs. Bates know and have Kyle move her. Since he is mated to Katie, he will be safe around her." Dr. Jacobs says as he leaves the room.

Julia places a cold rag on my forehead. The coolness of the cloth caused me to shiver, but that only lasted a few seconds until she had to resoak it with ice water. The ice melted against my skin instantly.

"Oh, my goddess. Brinley, you're burning up. Hang in there. It will be over soon."

The pain was getting too much for me, and I drifted in and out of consciousness.
