When father's last cry fell silent, my mother fell to her knees as if her life force had been sucked out of her.
Instantly my eyes locked with Silas and I made sure that he was not severly injured. Then my gaze fell onto my bloodied father, but I did not have it in me to mourn him.
I felt Nathan's embrace tighten on me and he whispered, "It's finally over."
I nodded my head, but I knew that his words were not true, not yet.
"We should congratulate Silas.", a voice I barely recognized as my own said.
Nathan then turned me around and worriedly replied, "I'm sure he understands if we just go."
I shook my head.
"I want to."
Nathan's eyes wandered over my face, but once he had seen the determination in my eyes he nodded his head and pulled me along to Silas.
I suddenly stopped when I heard the mournful cry of my mother and Nathan instantly pulled me into his arms.
"Just give me a second.", I pleaded with him and tried to entangle myself from his arms. It was too easy to forget myself with Nathan, but now I needed a clear head.
I was sure that if I stayed at Nathan's side I would not carry out my plan.
"Congratulate Silas, please, I just need a minute."
Nathan looked unconvinced and I could totally understand that he did not want to leave me when he had just found me moments ago, but I told him, "It's really important to me."
He still did not look convinced, but nevertheless pressed a soft kiss to my forehead, whispered I love you and went to Silas.
I breathed a sight of relief and locked eyes with my mourning mother once more. I nodded my head at her, telling her that I would to what she requested.
I could clearly see the relief in her eyes and I slowly made my way to her.
A Mercy pack member was suddenly by my side, but before I could question what was happening, he was gone and a dagger was in my hand.
I instantly stopped and started to tremble when I realized that I was going to kill someone.
I knew that it was the right thing to do, but nevertheless I was killing someone, something I had never thought myself capable of.
Maybe I was not too different than my parents.
I shook my head, no I was different.
I would not kill my mother, because of how miserable she had made my life. I would kill her, because then she would be with father again. I would show her mercy.
Determination took over and finally I was in front of my mother, who had managed to pull herself up again.
"Sophia.", she said my name like a prayer.
Tears gathered in my eyes, when I heard the relief in her voice and once again I realized that I would never be completely over her not loving me enough.
"I'm not doing this, because you asked me to.", I told mother in a hard voice, "I'm doing this, because it's the right thing, the merciful thing, to do."
Mother nodded her head and tears escaped her eyes, before she closed them and took a deep breath.
Before I could question myself I said something that had my mother's eyes open again.
"If I would've been the daughter you always wanted", I tightened my grip on the dagger and quickly stabbed my mother into her womb, "you would die more cruelly."
My mother gasped and her hands tightened around my one still on the dagger.
Her cold blue eyes locked with my own.
"But lucky for you, I'm the complete opposite."
With those words being spoken I pulled my hand from my mother's grasp and turned around without sparing her a second glance.
I might have been brave enough to be the reason for my mother's death, but I was definitely not brave enough to watch her take her last breath.
